Meet The Shamrocks - Week 1

Week 1 of the IHSHL North Central Division season is here! It's time to meet your Shamrocks! 

Each week we will spot light one player and help you get to know him, his path to becoming a Shamrock, his goals while a member of the squad, and his plans after Shamrock Hockey. 

This week's 'Meet Your Shamrock' is Freshmen Steven Cook. 

Question: "How long have you been playing hockey"
Steven : "I've been playing for 8 years. 

Question: "Where did you play before Saint Pats?"
Steven: " I played for Northern Express Hockey in Park Ridge. 

Question: "What position do you play"
Steven: "My preferred position is wing"

Question: "Whats is your favorite hockey memory?"
Steven: "My Favorite hockey memory is when we were able to play on the Notre Dame college ice in the south-bend tournament."

Question: "What is your favorite pro team?"
Stephen:" Blackhawks of course"

Question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Stephen: " Architect, interior designer"

Question: " What are your plans after High School?"
Answer: " I want to go to college"

Question: "Any specific school or not yet?
Answer: "I'm still looking"

Question: " How do you feel about playing in your first regular season game with the Shamrocks?"
Steven " I'm really excited"

Question: "What are your goals for the season?"
Steven: "Get better skill wise and score some goals"

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 2

This week features freshmen Mike Dudzinski.

Defense

Question:" How long have you been playing hockey?"
Mike: "6 years"

Question:" Where did you play hockey before Saint Pats?"
Mike: "At Niles for the Rangers"

Question: "Do you prefer left or right defense?"
Mike: "To me it doesn't really matter. I'll play both-whatever I need to play"

Question: "What is your favorite hockey memory?"
Mike: "Going to Madison for my tournament and winning the championship"

Question: "What are your goals for yourself, for the team?"
Mike : "To play great and learn more and play as a team."

Question: "What is your favorite Pro Team?"
Mike: The Blackhawks and the Golden Knights

Question: "What are your plans after High School?"
Mike: "To go to college and become a mechanical engineer"

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 3

 

It's time for this weeks "Meet Your Shamrock"

Featured this week is Sophomore Defensemen Joe Raffin. This is Joe's second season with Shamrock Hockey. He is a solid, stay at home defensemen who isn't afraid to play the body. Joe also plays Shamrock Baseball!

Question: "How long have you been playing hockey?"
Joe: "10 years"

Question: "Where did you start playing? Where did you play before Saint Pats?"
Joe: "I started at Franklin Park and I played for Winter Club before Saint Pats.

Question: "What made you choose Saint Pats?"
Joe: "All of my friends kind of convinced me."

Question: "How do you feel about the upcoming season as a Shamrock now that you have a full season under your belt?"
Joe:"I think its going to be a fun and successful season."

Question: "You're starting of the year with a broken thumb. How is the injury progressing and are you excited to get back out there with the boys?"
Joe: "I'll be back in a week and I'm very excited to start back up."

Question: "What are your personal goals for the season? What are your goals for the team?"
Joe: "Get 5 goals this year. And have a winning record and beat ND"

Question: "What are your plans after High School?"
Joe: "Go to college and stay in sports?"

Question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Joe: "I want to be in Law Enforcement or stay in sports."

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 4

 

This week Shamrock Hockey features Sophomore Jim McCarthy. Jim is a physical player with good size who plays offense and defense. 

 

Question: How long have you been playing hockey?
Jim: "About 5 years"

Question: "Where did you play before Saint Pats?"
Jim" I played at Skokie"

Question: "What position do you play?"
Jim: "I can play both (defense and offense), depends on what coach needs"

Question: "What is your best hockey memory?"
Jim: " I think my best hockey memory is my first shift with Saint Pats"

Question: "tell me more..."
Jim:" I came flying off the bench and caught a guy at center ice . I had surprised myself with that hit!"

Question: " After having a full season under your belt, how do you feel about this season going forward?"
Jim:"I'm super excited! I think me and the boys worked pretty hard so, we're gonna earn a lot of wins this year."

Question: "What are your goals for the season and the rest of your time with Shamrock Hockey?"
Jim: "My goals for the season is just getting better and stronger as far as hockey goes but beating Notre Dame is the biggest thing because that's more than just a hockey game for me and many others."

Question: What are your plans after high school?"
Jim: "After high school I want to see where my athletic career takes me, if that doesn't work out I want to be a politician or a doctor."

It's time for this week's "Meet Your Shamrock!"
This week's Shamrock is Max Leavy. Max Leavy is a sophomore forward in his second season with Shamrock hockey. 

Question: "How Long Have you been playing hockey?"
Max: "8 years"

Question: "Where did you play before St. Pats?"
Max: "Franklin Park Panthers"

Question: "What is your best hockey memory?"
Max: "When I scored my first high school goal"

Question: "How do you feel now that you're rookie season is over and you're a sophomore?"
Max: "I'm very excited for what's to come"

Question: "What are your goals for the season?"
Max: "To develop my skills and become a better player"

Question: What number do you wear? Why is it your number?"
Max: "I wear number 11. I wear it because it has always been a number I've worn throughout the years"

Question: "What do you want to do after high school?"
Max: "I want to go to the university of Illinois and further my education"

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 6

 

It's time for this weeks edition of "Meet Your Shamrock." This week we feature sophomore forward Zack Raczynski! 

Question: "How long have you been playing hockey?
Zach: "10 years"

Question: " where did you play hockey before Saint Pats?"
Zachv : "I played for a few teams in Wisconsin mostly for the Ozaukee Ice dogs"

Question: "You recently moved to Chicago. Tell me about the move and how you like Saint Patrick High School compared to your grade School. :
Zach: " The move was overall great and I believe that Saint Pats was a great transition from Wisconsin because overall the atmosphere of Pats is great."

Question:" Now that you have your freshmen season under your belt, how does it feel to not be a rookie anymore?"
Zach: "It feels good because I feel like no longer being the youngest grade of the team I can concentrate more on the game and not having to worry about the other problems."

Question: "What number do you wear and why do you wear it?"
Zach: "I wear number 16 because it has been my number for all 10 years of hockey."

Question: "What are your goals for the season? The rest of your time at Pats?
Zach: "To keep improving my movement around players but also to learn how to work with all different types of players so I can know their style so I can play well with them."

Question: "What do you want to do after high school?"
Zach: "I want to go into business such as a working for a sales team or managing my own business."

Question: "Any plans for college?"
Zach: " Not at the moment but I am starting to look at some colleges that are known for business."

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 7

 

It's time for this weeks "Shamrock of the week!"

This week we feature Sophomore forward Sean Kusinski. Sean comes from a long line of Shamrocks. He is actually the 12th Kusinski to attend St Pats. One of his uncles coaches the baseball team and his other uncle coaches the volleyball team!

Question: "How many years have you been playing hockey ?"
Sean: "7 years"

Question " where did you play hockey before St Pats?"
Sean " Express"

Question: "What number do you wear and why do you wear it?"
Sean: " 6 because that is my favorite number ."

Question: " How does it feel to have your freshmen season under your belt? What has changed from your rookie season to now?"
Sean: " It feels good. I don't have to fill water bottles and take home pucks."

Question: " What are your goals for this season and the rest of your time with Shamrock Hockey?"
Sean: "See improvement in my game."

Question: "You come from a family of Shamrocks. Tell me about the Kusinski's that came before you..."
Sean: "I am the 12th Kusinski to go to Pats. I have one baseball coach and volleyball coach at Pats, I have 4 family members who went to pats that are police officers (1 retired). 

Question: "What are your plans after high school?"
Sean: " I want to go to college at Michigan or NIU!"

Questions: "Any ideas what you want to study?"
Sean: " Undecided"

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 8

It's that time again! This weeks "Meet your Shamrock" is Sophomore forward Jack Owens!

Question: "How long have you been playing hockey?"
Jack : "8 years"

Question: "Where did you play hockey before Saint Pat's?"
Jack: "Most recently the Northern Express, before that the McFetridge Riverdogs."

Question: "What number do you wear and why is it your number?"
Jack: "I wear number 91. I've actually never had a consistent number so I picked 91 because its a cool number."

Question: "What made you choose Saint Pat's?"
Jack : "A lot of things. My grandpa is alumni, and my other grandpa worked at the school in the 50's. That and the strong brotherhood, academics, and of course the hockey team!

Question: "How was your freshmen year and the transition to sophomore year? What has changed?
Jack: "My freshmen year went really well. It's nice not having to fill water bottles and take home pucks anymore. I definitely feel an improvement in my play from last year."

Question: "What are your goals for the season? How about the rest of your time at Saint Pat's?"
Jack: "I hope to attend MSU and play either club or NCAA hockey, as well as further my education."

Question: "Do you have any idea what you'll study?"
Jack: I'm not sure yet. I hope to stay with hockey in some way, whether that be sports writing or physical training."

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 9

 

 

It's time for this weeks "Meet Your Shamrock.' This week's Shamrock is Sophomore forward Jon Simz! 

Question: " How long have you been playing hockey?"
Jon: "This year is my second season playing hockey and also for the Shamrocks."

Question: "Where did you play before Saint Pats?"
Jon : "No where. I only played for Shamrocks."

Question: "How does it feel to be a sophomore and not a rookie anymore?
Jon: "It feels good. I matured and also I don't have to fill waters and pick up pucks."

Question: "Last year you won most improved player. What do you think contributed to your improvement?"
Jon: "Working out during the summer and putting in extra days of workout and listening to the coaches."

Question: "What is your best hockey memory?"
Jon: " When I scored my first goal against the Lakers. I told my mom I would score for her that and it was mothers day."

Question: "You scored again last week against Fox Valley, tell me about your 'celly' and where it came from.
Jon: "My celebration is something that Joey Guerra came up with. It came from my dad how he drives the bus for the boys and honks the horn a lot."

Question: "I thought it was "The Otto" from the Simpsons?"
Jon: "Sure... 😂😂😂"

Question: "What are your goals for the season? For the rest of your time as a Shamrock?"
Jon : "To be a starting center and also to improve my skating"

Question: "What do you want to do after high school?"
Jon: "Go to college and get a degree in business."

Question: "What do you want to do with the business degree? What colleges are you thinking about?"
Jon: "My dream job is a Chief Executive Officer. Some decent school but also close to home."

Question: "How has having an older brother who is also a captain impacted you?"
Jon: "Joey as my brother he pushes me to make the right plays and he also pushed me to play hockey with him."

Question: "What do you think of last years team compared to this years?"
Jon: "This year there has been a lot of kids who improved. I think we are looking better(than last year)."

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 10

 

Boy do we have a treat for you this week! Joining us for this weeks "Meet Your Shamrock" is sophomore defensemen, forward and apparently goalie, Joey the Jokester Guerra!!

Question: "How long have you been playing hockey?"
Joe: "1 year"

Question: " Where did you play hockey before Saint Pats?"
Joe: "Oriole Park Floor Hockey U14"

Question: "What position do you play?"
Joe: "Defense, Goalie and offense. I played goalie when I was 6. It was goalie for soccer"

Question: "How do you feel about this years team compared to last years team?"
Joe: " I feel like St John Baptist De La Salle helped our team become better this year because I prayed to him after our season last year. Mr. Raho really led me on a spiritual path to God."

Question: "What are your goals for the season?"
Joe: "My goal for the season is to get faster at getting dressed"

Question: What are your goals for the rest of your time at St Pats?"
Joe: " To become better at swimming in P.E."

Question: "What steps are you taking to meet your goal?"
Joe: "I am swimming at my grandmothers country club with an instructor named Rich and he is teaching me the backstroke."

Question: " What are your plans after High School?"
Joe: "My plans after high school are to become a successful stockbroker or lawyer and I am very committed to becoming one of those things."

Question: "Are you looking at any specific colleges?"
Joe: "Harvard and Alabama"

Question: " What is your superpower?"
Joe: "Teleporting"

Question: "This past weekend you scored the game winning goal to secure third place finish for the squad, tell me about the game and your GW goal."
Joe:" The game was close the whole way and I wasn't very happy that the other team was playing dirty and took my fellow teammate Max Leavy out of the game so I decided to try and make a play. The goal was nice in my opinion."

Question: "that was your second goal of the game, correct? tell me about the first."
Joe: "The first one was spectacular. My slime Sean Kusinski passed me the puck for a breakaway goal that I put middle left."

Question : "Your slime?"
Joe: "Another word for best friend. Teenagers nowadays use it."

Question: "What is your favorite part of being a Shamrock Hockey Player?"
Joe: "The fact that I get to skate with Matt Lungren."

Question: "I've been told by reliable sources that you're extremely dedicated to playing hockey in Sweden. What made this a goal and how excited are you to try their meatballs for the first time?"
Joe: "Not excited at all. My skill level is very low for only playing hockey for one year. I will have to grind to play up with the Swedes."

Question: " Do you think you'll be all Swedish, no Finnish?
Joe: "All swedish"

Question: "What is your favorite app to use at hockey?"
Joe: "Fantasy football"

Question: "Favorite celebrity to dine with?"
Joe: "J-LO"

Question: "Have you ever gone viral"
Joe: "The one time I went viral was in a chief Keef video"

Meet the Shamrocks - Week 12

 

It's time for another edition of "Meet Your Shamrocks"

This weeks Shamrock is Junior forward, Vince Evans.

Question: " How long have you been playing hockey?"
Vince: "4 years"

Question: "Where did you play before Saint Pats?"
Vince: " I played at McFetridge with the River Dogs."

Question: "This is your first year as an upperclassmen. How does it feel to be one of the older guys?"
Vince: "It definitely feels good. I know I am expected to set an example so that is what I'm working on.

Question: "How do you feel about this years squad vs last years team?"
Vince: " I think it feels pretty much the same. It is sad and not to mention a little harder playing without Jake but were getting through it and doing well."

Question: " Would you say a lot of guys have improved?"
Vince: " yes"

Question: "What do you think is the biggest factor in everyones improvement?"
Vince: "More practices and a slow but steady discipline."

Question: "What is your favorite hockey memory?"
Vince: "The Notre Dame Tournament last year"

Question: "What are your goals for this season? Both individually and for the team?"
Vince: "More discipline and preparedness and to win a championship"

Question: "What are your plans after high school?"
Vince: "I plan to be a pilot"

Question: "Any Schools you are looking at?"
Vince: "University of Illinois at Champaign and Lewis University"

Meet The Shamrocks - Week 13

It's time for this week's edition of "Meet Your Shamrocks"
This week we have a special treat as star goaltender Mike Nallen is with us. 

Question: "How long have you been playing hockey?"
Mike: "I have been playing hockey for about 4 years."

Question: "Where did you play hockey before Saint Pat's?"
Mike:" I played hockey the Oakton Ice Arena (for the Express).

Question: " What got you into hockey?"
Mike: "I first got into hockey watching the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I remember watching the goalies play and ever since I thought it would a fun and challenging position to play."

Question: "You're a junior now. How has the team changed, grown, since your freshmen year? What are some of the differences from year to year.?"
Mike: "Well one big thing that's changed throughout the years has definitely been the friendship and bonding in the locker room. I think that's contributed to our recent success."

Question: "Do you think the team as a whole has improved?"
Mike: "Yes, most definitely. Especially from last season. I believe we will accomplish big things at the end of our season."

Question: "What are your goals while still at Saint Pat's?"
Mike: "To improve as a goalie for sure, but I also want to help the team win as much as I can."

Question: "'What are your plans after high school?"
Mike: "Attend college and play club hockey wherever I go."

Question:" Have you thought about any schools specifically?"
Mike: "I'm looking at the University of Illinois at Champaign and Bradley University."

Question: "What do you want to be when you are done with college?"
Mike: "(I am) undecided but I am thinking about maybe being a pilot."
