1st & 2nd Grade Rules
1st & 2nd Grade Rules | ||
1) The basket will be lowered to a height of 9' 0" | ||
2) The ball used will be the small 27 oz basketball. | ||
3) We will play a total of 8 periods, each period will be 4 minutes | ||
long. The clock will run continuously. | ||
4) The only defense allowed is Man-to-Man Defense. | ||
5) Grades 1 thru 4 will play a full court game in the short length. | ||
6) Manual clocks and scoreboards will be left out for every team. | ||
Please recruit a young volunteer to maintain the clock and score. | ||
7) Scores are zeroed out at the end of each period. | ||
8) Although everyone normally plays 5 vs. 5, we recommend | ||
to play 4 vs. 4 whenever possible, especially when both teams | ||
are missing players. | ||
9) NO Stealing from the ball handler. Passes can be intercepted | ||
and stolen, but absolutely NO stealing from the ball handler. | ||
10) Double teaming is NOT allowed, except when the offensive | ||
player is in the paint. Once the defense secures the ball | ||
via a rebound, turnover or violation, the offense must drop | ||
back to half court and pick up once the Defense | ||
11) Substitions are made at the start of each period and not in | ||
the middle of a period. | ||
12) The coaches are responsible to officiating the games | ||
and instructing the players. Both coaches should be | ||
on the court stopping play, correcting as well as instructing | ||
as much as possible. | ||
13) A players log should be maintained by both teams so each | ||
player receives an equal amount of playing time. Coaches are | ||
not allowed to leave one or two players in for the entire game or | ||
for more than 75% of the time. Everyone must play a fair amount. | ||

4) Man-to-Man and Zone Defenses are allowed. | |
5) Grades 5 thru 9 will play all games on the long full court.. | |
6) The scoreboard will be left on prior to the game. | |

8) The NO Stealing policy is at the discretion of both coaches. | |
If both coaches agree to steal then its ok, but if one coach doesn't | |
want stealing then the NO stealing policy is in effect. | |
