Leadership
"Leadership is not a jacket. You do not put it on, then take it off, put it in a closet and have it on every now and then."
Jim O'Brien
ex-Sixers Coach (Philadelphia Inquirer 1-9-05)
"If a player is willing to be a leader, he can become one. I look at people who are really focused on putting the team ahead of their own individual accomplishments. I also look for people who are willing to step up when the game is on the line." - Ken Hitchcock, Flyers Coach (Philadelphia Inquirer 1-9-05)
If you want to become a leader, you should start today to prepare yourself. Good leadership is learned before it is required.
"When opportunity comes, it is too late to prepare." - John Wooden
The leader MUST genuinely care about the people he leads. The health of the team or organization will be negatively affected if the leader is perceived as self-centered or lacking in caring about others.
"The most important measure of how good a game I played was how much better I made my teammates play." Bill Russell
