Libby moves past Columbia Falls

At Libby, the Loggers scored three second-half goals to win their state tournament play-in game against Columbia Falls, 3-1.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead into the half after Jakob Grein found the back of the net in the 17th minute. 

But two goals by Zander Peterson and one by Ryan Nagle, all in a span of 19 minutes, sealed the berth for the Loggers.

Columbia Falls outshot Libby 21-6, and Loggers keeper Brandon Karberg had 20 saves.

Laurel stuns Columbia Falls

At Columbia Falls, the Wildkats saw their bid for a return trip to the state finals fall short despite scoring first in a state quarterfinal against Laurel.

Columbia Falls broke on top in the 20th minute when junior Madison Snyder scored on an assist from senior Ellie Johnson. Raquel Jimenez knotted the score for the Locomotives 10 minutes later and they went ahead to stay on an Ashtyn Hoppel goal in the 48th minute.

The Wildkats, champions of the Northern A conference, finished with an 8-3-2 record. Laurel boosted its record to 6-4-1.
