The La Plata High School Warriors Baseball Program

Coach Childers will be entering his 10th season as the Varsity Head Coach at La Plata High School in 2021-2022. Coach Childers played collegiately at St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he was an all-conference centerfielder and team captain. Prior to coaching at La Plata, Coach Childers was the pitching coach at St. Mary’s College in 1996 and the hitting/infield coach at Bowie State University in 1997.  In 1997 Bowie State ranked 20th in the nation in batting average and 23rd in the nation in runs scored.

Coach Childers has led the Warriors to three 2A State Championships. In 9 seasons, Coach Childers' overall record is 174-37 and his teams have won 4 SMAC conference championships and 8 regional championships. The Warriors had a 43 game home unbeaten streak that spanned nearly 4 seasons. Over the past nine seasons, 31 Warriors have moved on to play collegiate baseball, including 5 at the Division 1 level. Coach Childers was named the State of Maryland and Mideast Section Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools.

Coach Childers resides in Swan Point with his wife Denise and son Chase who played for the Warriors from 2012-2014 before pursuing golf at Randolph-Macon College.

Todd is beginning his 3rd season working with the program.  Todd is a Maryland wrestling coaching legend who has also been a varsity baseball head coach in his home state of Pennsylvania.

Coach Kirby is entering his first season coaching in the program.  Coach Kirby graduated from La Plata High School in 2019 after leading the Warriors to state championships in 2016 and 2019.  Coach Kirby pitched for two season at Division II Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia.  Coach Kirby was a starter at AB who helped lead the Battlers to the Championship game during his sophomore season.  Coach Kirby will be the pitching coach for both levels.

Coach Grego is returning to coach his 4th season as the JV coach at La Plata High School.  Coach Grego is a World History teacher at La Plata High School and a graduate of Virginia Tech University.  Coach Grego lives in King George, Virginia with his wife Gina and their two sons Jackson and Noah.

Coach Barrett will move up from JV to Varsity as an assistant this season.

Coach Harpold will begin his first year with the staff.
