Program History

The North Babylon Girls’ Varsity Soccer Program has a rich history of success. The program began in 1981, in that first season under the guidance of Coach Steve LaRosa (that was Coach LaRosa’s only season as head coach) the Bulldogs lost in the Suffolk County Finals.

In 1982, Coach Ed Colgan took over and led the Bulldogs to the school’s first league championship and back to the County Finals with a 16-1 record. The Bulldogs would lose the County Finals that season on penalty kicks. Coach Colgan would lead the Bulldogs to five league titles, thirteen consecutive playoff appearances, five final four appearances, and two county final appearances. In all Coach Colgan would lead the Bulldogs for twenty-one seasons and received five League Coach of Year honors.

In 2003, Coach Patricia (Shannon) Lemanczyk became the third coach to take the helm of the Bulldogs. In her first season Coach Lemanczyk led the Bulldogs back to the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons. In her five seasons, Coach Lemanczyk would lead the Bulldogs to a league title in 2007 and make four playoff appearances. The playoff win in the first round of the playoffs in 2006 was the first in seventeen years. Coach Lemanczyk received League Coach of Year honors in 2007.

In 2008, Coach Steve Corrado became the fourth coach to take the helm of the Bulldogs. In his first two seasons Coach Corrado would lead the Bulldogs to consecutive league titles. In 2009, the Lady Bulldogs reached the county semi-finals for the first time since 1989.  In 2010 the Buldogs  reached the county semi-finals for the second consecutive season.  In 2011, the Lady Bulldogs clinched a playoff spot for the 7th consecutive season and eight of the previous nine years.  After a one year hiatus from the playoffs in 2012 the Bulldogs posted a 10 win season and returned to the playoffs in 2013.  In 2014 the posted only the 6th 14-win season in the program's history and reached as high as #5 on the State rankings for the top high school teams in the state.   In 2015, the Bulldogs clinched a playoff berth for the tenth time in the past eleven seasons and advanced to the county quarterfinals.  In 2016, the Bulldogs clinched a playoff berth for eleventh time in twelve seasons.  Coach Steve Corrado has received League Coach of Year honors in 2008, 2009 and 2014.
