P.B.L.O. Players

When the league started there was a lot of discussion about P.B.L.O. Players playing in the playoff weekend when their schedule ends.
After much discussion with coaches in a forum, it was decided in a 10 votes to 1 vote that the P.B.L.O. players would be ineligible for the Midget League and Playoff Weekend.
The reason was that people didn't want to see players that played all season be displaced for the playoffs by guys that were not there all year. (It was felt that it might lead to players quitting and then maybe teams folding)
Please Note: the O.B.A. allows for P.B.L.O. players to play at the O.B.A. Weekend.

Please respect this during the season so the S.P.B.A./W.C.B.A.Convenors don't have to intervene.

 Entry into the League

  • We are looking for a cheque for $245 for entry into the league. Last year we asked for $100 should we have a forfeit but we haven't had a lot of issues with that. We would prefer not to chase everyone for money for the All-Star Game and the first 4 rounds of the playoffs. (Too many different diamonds to collect money from.)
  • Please see a break down of what the expenses are for the All-Star Game and the Year End Playoff Weekend etc.

Please see see the All Star Game and Playoff weekend to see why you are bringing a cheque for the amount of $245 to the scheduling meeting.

The following is why the $245 cheque was asked for.

  • $10 per team) - Umpires $110 (All-Star Game)
  • (2 players for $25) - T-Shirts $10 (plus Tax) If we end up with a team sending more than 2 players it will be an additional $13 for the additional players attending.
  •  ($10 per team) All-Star Game (2) MVP Awards. $50.
  •  $200 for the first 4  games of the playoffs (If you don't play in the playoffs it is returned)
    • If you get beat out 2 straight in the playoffs you will get back $100
    • If you play the 3rd game and suffer your 2nd loss you are eliminated from the tournament (You will get back $50)
    • If you play 4th games in the tournament than you will receive nothing back.
    • For every game you play beyond your 4th game you will be responsible for paying $50 (50% of a game cost) per game that you advance. Your opponent will do the same.
    • If you forfeit a game and umpires expenses are incurred than $100 of your $245 would go to the team that you forfeited to. You would then start paying for your 3rd round game.

Playoff Weekend

 Rules

  • O.B.A. Rules will apply. http://www.baseballontario.com/umpires/news/rules.aspx
  • If at ground rules you choose to hit everyone or more than the rules state this is up to the coaches to agree on. If they can't then O.B.A. Rules will be followed.
  • League will follow O.B.A. Rules. You can use an E.P. and if the coaches agree you can hit/play more than 10 players. Please discuss prior to the start of the game.
  • Running for the Catcher. - This is not an O.B.A. Rule and must be agreed on during the ground rules.(No mention of it during the ground rules and it doesn't take place when the game is on the line to avoid drama.)

Umpires

  • We will be using for all SPBA games the Windsor Umpires . If you do not have their contact info please let me know and I can provide it.

Game Schedule Format

  • Teams will meet April 7th, 2018 at the Comber Legion at 3:00 PM to schedule their games.
  • Everyone plays everyone 2 twice.
  • Coaches please be on the same page when you submit your scores. If you are playing more than 2 games with a team this season please decide which games will count towards the Standings to avoid issues.
  • All game schedules will be uploaded to the www.leaguelineup.com/spbamidget site and teams will be emailed and asked to review their schedules to see if there have been any mistakes
  • Home Teams will submit the scores within 48 hours of the game. Preferably right away.

 Forfeits

All games must be canceled before the 24 hour time period described below or your team will forfeit the game and your $100 deposit to cover umpires. Please refer to the 2 examples shown below.

1.      Example # 1: The game is May 3st at 6 PM in Chatham. The Essex Coach sends an email off at 6:01 PM on May 2nd to cancel a game. This creates calls and emails for the Chatham Coach to his players as well as the individual in charge of Umpire Scheduling. We would like to avoid as much of this as possible. We don’t want a few people to end up driving to the park to find out.

In this case there “would be a forfeit”of the scheduled game and $100 lost.

2.      Example # 2: The If the email went out at 5:59 PM from Essex to the Chatham coach there would be no forfeit and no loss of $100 deposit. The game would be rescheduled by the 2 coaches for another date within the required time frame.

In this case there “would not be a forfeit” of the scheduled game and $100 would not be lost.

Rain Outs

  • Rain Cancellation– Not much can be done here. Please keep in mind that some teams will have a long way to travel and in some cases, you might be better off to cancel if you have any doubts.

Standings

We will use the settings in Leaguelineup.com

Point system, not winning percentage.

Active Tiebreakers

  •     Points W/L/T
  •     Games Won
  •     Games Lost
  •     Runs Against
  •     Runs For
  •     Runs Differential

"Runs For" - You can only submit a win with a run differential of 10 runs. example 15-5. (even if you win 20-5)

We don't want guys running the score up in an effort to move up in the standings based on wanting to change their  "Run Differential"

Mid Season All-Star Game

  • All Star Game - Chatham will be hosting the all-star game  on Tuesday, July 9th 7:00 pm  .  DO NOT SCHEDULE Games on this day.
  • We will draw for team matchup.
  • Each team will send representatives. Numbers will be based on the number of Teams in the Division. Western Counties VS Sun Parlour or East VS West depending on the number of teams from each area.
  • The price of 2 Shirts for your teams has been factored into the $245 cheque you have provided.Additional players will be $10 plus tax if we need more players. Sorry Coaches you will need to pay for these.

In The Event Of a Tie For 1st Place at the End of the Season

The website will give us a League Champion at the end of the season. Based on everyone playing each other 2 times.

In order to be considered 1st place you must play all of your games.

This is really only for seeding anyway.

Your team will get 2 points for a Win, 1 point for a Tie and 0 points for a loss.

In the event of a Tie at the end for seeding purposes for the 1st round of the playoffs.

  1. Points (If you have played all of your games. )
  2. Head to Head (Perhaps a 1 game playoff if needed)
  3. Tie Games  (which team has more)
  4. Run Differential - Runs For and Runs Against (Only the teams involved)
  5. Shut Outs – (Team with most shut outs would be given advantage)
  6. Discrepancies handled by the convenors in a discussion to resolve.

Playoff Format

  •  All games must be completed by Tuesday night August 14th (No Double Headers on August 9th - Playoff Schedule, Hosts, Umps to get worked out for Friday nights games.) All games not played will sit as just that not played. No points gained, not forefits or disputed. This is why you must keep me up to date if a team is not rescheduling a cancellation within the time frame mentioned above. This is very important. It is too late to start worrying about how a game not made up impacts seeding at the last minute.
  • August 24-26 Weekend- We will need Association's to host for the weekend.
  •          O.B.A. Tournament "Double Knock Out "Format with the # 1 seed getting a bye if one exists in the 1st round.
  •          We will draw for the game numbers because of the potential to get a bye down the road in the tournament. The Tournament Game Draw will be videoed and placed on the website.
  • The # 1 seed or team given 1st place in the standings at the end of the season will play the last placed team in the 1st round of the playoff format. (This is why we draw for game positioning in the tournament format. We can't give a team the last place seed and then the bye as well. The Standing could have teams with players working etc. The playoff weekend is when we will see most teams have their whole roster out and  this is why we try and give the date for the playoffs in advance.)
  •          Everyone has until August 10th at 6 PM to commit. We don't want forfeits during the playoffs. (If you do this you will lose your money put towards your first 2 games.
  • Windsor Umpires will be used for the playoffs if the tournament is hosted on a Sun Parlour Diamond.
  • The higher seed will be able to host the 1st game at their park on Friday night. If they can't get their diamond for some reason I will work to find a diamond for them while still allowing them to have last at bat. (hammer)
  • Be prepared for potential travel this is always a hard tournament to keep everyone happy.
  • If in the 2nd round we have a match up of Chatham, Dresden and Wyoming we will do our best to try and play that game locally and not force someone to drive down for a game in Leamington if it can be done. This is not always going to be possible depending on game times and venues. (This will be up to the Convenors from SPBA and WCBA to make the final decision. We can't have umps refusing to ump if we are later than 15 minutes waiting to start a game because of drive time.
