OG-EFL League Rules

League Rules

Note: From 1986 - 1995 The regular season consisted of 5 games.  From 1996 - 2010, Regular Season games consisted of 6 games.  From 2011 - Present, Regular season games consist of 7 games per League Coaches request.

Game Length:  Games will consist of each team running 16 Offensive plays total.

First Downs: NFL rules apply - 4 downs to reach the line of gain (10 yards) to obtain a 1st down.

Play Clock:  The Offense will have 30 seconds to set up after the board has stopped.  The Defense will setup at the same time.

  • Once the Offense has called 'SET', the Defense will have 10 seconds to finish setting up.  As the Offense counts out the 10 seconds, at the expiration or upon the Defense calling "SET", the Offense will have 5 seconds (counted out by the Defense) to make two Pivots, one motion and one Pivot, or one Motion.  The Defense will then be given 5 seconds to match any Pivots or Motions made by the Offense.
  • The Offense will call RUN or PASS or QB OPTION.
  • RUN called, the Offense must point out the ball carrier and the Defense will then control the start/stop of the board (The board will be stopped upon a tackle).
  • PASS called, the offense with control the start/stop of the board.  Once stopped, the board may not be restarted.
  • QB OPTION called, the offense will control the start/stop.  Once stopped the Offense must call QB KEEP, PITCH, or PASS.  If QB KEEP is called, no pivots or adjustments can be made and the Defense takes control of the start/stop switch.  If PITCH is called, the Offense has 5 seconds to make 1 pivot and call 'SET'.  The Defense will then have 5 seconds to match the 1 pivot.  The Defesnse will take control of the start/stop switch.  If a PASS is called, the Offense will have the normal 20 seconds to pass the ball to the intended target.

Pass Attempts: The Offensive Coach will stop the board at the desired time to attempt a PASS at which time the 20 second PASS CLOCK will start (counted out by the Defensive Coach).  The Offensive Coach MUST CLEARLY IDENTIFY the WR, RB, or TE he will be attempting to throw the ball to.  The Offensive Coach will be given 1 - 4 attempts depending on what down it is.  All passes may only be attempted to the IDENTIFIED TARGET.  If the pass is not completed within the 20 seconds, the Offense will be charged with the number of pass attempts taken from their original 15 plays.  CAREFUL! Always know what down it is.  If it is 2nd down, the Offense may attempt up to 2 passes (3rd and 4th downs) however, if the pass is not completed it will result in turnover on downs and the opposing team will take possession of the ball at that spot.

Completed Pass: To be considered a completed pass, the ball must make contact by directly hitting, or bouncing off any part of the board then making contact with the targeted receiver.  If the ball makes contact with an unintended target, the pass will be considered complete, but no pivots will be allowed to be made by the passing team.  On completed passes, the Offense will have what time is remaining from the original 20 second pass clock to make pivots to the Receiver and blockers.  The Defense will be given 5 seconds to make pivots.  No engaged players may be pivoted.

Interception: It will be considered an INT if the ball makes direct contact, or bounces off any part of the field then makes contact with a defesive player first.

Batted Down Pass: Passes will be considered Batted Down if the attempted pass hits a Defensive player with in 5 yards of the LOS.

TIP Drill Pick: In cases where the ball is first hit by any player (Offensive/Defensive) with in the 5 yards of the LOS, the ball will be awarded to the next eligible player the ball comes in contact with.  Example; The pass is attemtpted to OP#1 but hits DP#99 (with in 5 yards of the LOS) then comes in contact with DP#20 = result = INT awarded to DP#20. In these situations, no pivots or adjustments are not allowed.

Ineligible Pivot: Niether the Offense or Defense will be allowed to pivot any player who is engaged with an opposing player.

QB Sack: Any time a Defensive player comes in contact with any part of the QB during the running of the board on pass plays, it will be considered a QB sack.

Coverage Sack: Passes may not be attempted to players who are engaged (bases touching) with a Defensive player.  If all Eligible players are engaged when the board is stopped, this is recorded as a COVERAGE SACK.  If a pass hits an eligible receiver that is engaged (any part of the bases touching) by a Defensive player, this will be ruled as a PASS BREAK-UP by the Defender.

Fumbles: Fumbles will only occur when a ball carrier falls over on his own behind the LOS or by contact beyond the LOS.  This means that no prongs is touching the board.  If a ball carrier is leaning on another player, there must be no prongs touching the board in order to be ruled a fumble.  If the QB is knocked over by contact this will be considered a strip sack.  A coin toss will determine which team recovers the fumble.  HEADS= always Offense, TAILS= always Defense.

Offensive/Defensive Alignment: Defensive linemen must play head up on Offensive linemen.  No Gaps. No stacking.  Offensive Linemen must have a minimum 1/2 base width between players and must be set within the hash marks.  The Offense must always have a minimum of 7 players (5 OL, 2 WR/TE) on the LOS.

Stationary Players: The Defense may always use one stationary player.  If the Offense uses a stationary QB, the Defense will then have the option to use 2 stationary players.

Tackle: It is considered a tackle whenever any part of the Defensive players base comes in contact with the ball carrier's base.

Broken Tackle: A broken Tackle is when the front of the ball carrier's base comes in contact with the back of a Defender's base.
