The co-founder of Capital City Youth Association and longtime coach of CCYA’s top teams, Elvin Shead has been a guiding force in the lives of hundreds of young men. He got his start in basketball, and football, at A.S. Johnston High School (Austin) in the late 1980s. Shead continued to play both sports, while serving in the military. He moved back to Austin in the early 1990s. When he’s not on the job as a maintenance supervisor for the Manor Independent School District, Shead is continuing his passionate work with kids, helping them to not only become great basketball players but honorable young men.
Lawrence Hill – Vice President
Born in Ohio and raised in Austin. Graduated from Lanier HS in 1990 and Angelo St. Univ. in 1994 with a BA in Bus Administration. Three sport athlete in HS (Football - All State) and played collegiate football (Captain & 4 yr letterman). Employed at Applied Materials for 28 years is currently Managing Director of Supply Chain. He has served the community via various outlets including Junior Achievement, Outreach mentoring & support and High School STEM involvement. Lawrence has helped manage the organization since its inception and has coached football, recreation basketball and AAU basketball for the past 16 years. Married to Thaysha Hill with 2 children, Lawrence and Asha.
Jaylen Shead – Head Coach
Marquette Wilkins – Coach & Recruiting Coordinator
Marquette Wilkins ranks among the best point man to ever play in Midwestern State's great basketball lore. In 2014 Wilkins was inducted into the Hall of Honor at MSU and remains MSU's all-time assists leader (465), ranks eighth with 1,667 points, and ranks third in steals (188). Wilkins earned All-Lone Star Conference honors and was named the league's defensive player of the year pouring in 17.4 points and 4.4 assists per game after garnering preseason honorable mention All-America honors as a senior in 2003-04. He closed out his career with a masterful 39-point performance against Tarleton State in the opening round of the LSC tournament in Stephenville.
- Wilkins Coached at John B. Connally as a Varsity Assistant Coach 2006 - 2008. In 2007 the program went to State and lost to Dallas South Oak Cliff. Wilkins also Coached at Hyde Park Baptist School as a Head Coach 2011 - 2016. In 2011 the program lost the game to go to TAPPS 4A State Finals.
- Coached in several summer programs 2004 - 2022.
Demone Moore – Coach & Skill Development Coordinator
Born and raised in Austin Texas. Former Collegiate athlete. Current Coach and Skills trainer @Capital City Youth Association. Providing Mentorship through basketball and proud father of 4.
Ray Jackson – Coach & Public Relations Coordinator
Ray Jackson, former University of Michigan basketball star and member of the Fab Five, has been a well respected coach and basketball trainer in Austin, TX for two decades. In 2003, Ray co-founded Rise Up, Incorporated and the Rising Stars Academic and Athletic program, focused on athletics, youth development, academic success and community involvement. Rising Stars has served hundreds of youth in Austin that have gone on to achieve success on and off the court. Since that time, Ray has served as a head varsity basketball coach at Concordia High School (2009-2011) and Assistant Head Varsity Coach at St. Andrews Episcopal (2011-2016).
