LL championship games are usually for the ages.  You don't know what to expect let alone what the players visualize leading up to the game.  A warm Friday evening, cool music playing to ease the tension.  Families did not fail to support, they came in groups ready to cheer.  Even players from ousted teams where there to witness.  Then tip-off.

Congratulations to our Season 25 champs!

A memorable performance by both teams.  How about these story lines: (1) #5 seed upends defending champions, (2) almost goat, Romeo Vergara comes out smelling like roses, (3) game literally hang in the balance with 0.3 seconds left in the game and Arnel Manabat shooting FT's to send it into OT, (4) Two Germany (Deutschland) players limped off the court very late in the second half only to see them come back in the game!

We are fortunate to have this outlet every Friday, to get away from the grind and just be us!  Thank you Germany.  Thank you France for reminding us.  Thank you LigaLeague for another cherry-topped season.

All Eyes On Pinterest

Each championship game takes a life on its own.  In fact our past 30 championship games we're littered with perseverance, struggles and triumph - a great cover board and discussion points as we reflect how we were in those moments!  GROs are very proud of our latest crowned OGs - Pinterest whom had taken the task at hand and just went on to do their business.  Leaving alone the incident early in the game and just focused on the game at hand. 

 

Smiles all around for this team whom we felt would be a little disjointed with its player composition.  I mean we all know about their Bad Boys lineage of their FIBL days running with Bogart but what about Orly and Conrad - a tandem surely not made in heaven but rather in shipping stuff.  Orly (friend of Kevin Lai) is our USPS worker while Conrad is into shipping your boxes to motherland.  But kudos on how they've worked together and found their mojo.  Lest not forget rookie Miko Hayer whom had recently left native home, was encouraged by bro-in-law Kiko Dagumboy to break a sweat in our gym and now sporting the elusive hardware.

 

Congrats again Pinterest!  Get ready to defend very soon :)

 

Hail to Snapchat

What an amazing night to be a fan of true underdogs!  Ever since draft day, we knew yellow would have to gel quickly to give themselves a chance only because it's a team composed of a veterans and couple of rookies not that the composition were unusual but these veterans have not played together in a while plus their part-time player was coming back after 2 year off.  These cats were really unfamiliar with one another.

 
They promptly strung along consecutive losses most of the season and actually finished the season with a below-the-belt record of 2-8.  Players not showing up...for sure, everyone was ready to check out and just run out the string.  Then...
 
Soon as season turned into playoffs, something clicked.  Like David facing Goliath no not David perhaps Babalu vs Goliath because Fred Castillo was not even on the floor with them as he lay on the beaches of Oahu working on an even tan.  Behemoth Goliath (Instagram) lost by 6pts - really!  
I was there, witnessed it, and to this day still scratching my head how that was made possible by Snapchat.
 
Juice of invincibility starting to flow as top seed Spotify gets a chance to flick this Yellow bug off their shoulder after all Fred would be back from sunburn islands.  Out of nowhere top seed promptly surrendered to Snapchat losing by 18pts.  Is that a typo?!  That was a shellacking of Spotify at the hands and wings of the bug.
 
Now it's Twitter's turn to stop these overachievers.  Fresh from their own dismantling of defending champ - Pinterest, they have a plan.  It was a game not fit for a track meet but competitive nonetheless.  Nobody had this game run away from them.  Back and forth they go - brick after brick or basket after basket or snooze after snooze, it was a close game throughout until when the buzzer sounded.  Cinderella team fulfilled its promise and takes the hardware, 34-32.
 
Congratulations to the whole Snapchat team.  You guys reminded us that anyone has a chance when given an opportunity.  AND that is all anyone could ever asked for!
 
 

Hail to Snapchat...Again!

Wow!  What a cinderella run.  I still remember how these lads venture out last spring.  Uncertainty most definitely as never had LigaLeague fielded a roster with 3 rookies together in a single team.  But that season was unusual.  We endured quite a few players sitting out due to injuries and schedule conflicts that it created an opening never seen by the league where 8 players sat.  So opportunity opened up for new players and solidified 2nd season players in our totem pole.  Fortunately that's how Snapchat  became.  Ron Buena helped the league cover a gaping hole from our player pool (needing to fill 8 spots) brought a couple of his friends, Jay Oomen (Ron's neighbor) and Wilmer Buena (Manteca resident).  Ron reported that these guys just want to sweat just like us :).

 

The most impressive accomplishment of this team in my opinion is their ability to find and develop chemistry.  Remember nobody new each other from this roster outside of Ron's posse. There were trying times and ugly losses right off the gate  at then Season 32.  We as organizers, were simply observing; hoping they find their footing.  Shortly thereafter, veteran high-impact player Fred Castillo came out of his shell and took reins of the team.  Through his leadership and newly found partnership with teammates, slowly they learned to play together.  Effort breeds winning and the whiff of W became  contagious for these lads which propelled them through back-to-back championship.  Never did they lose composure as they integrated Jojo Bonilla, Oliver Estrada and Billy Flores as replacement for Mike Gruela, Al Lugtu and Ding Dinlasan. They've been through this road before.  Sometimes the journey makes it all worthwhile.  Later on it became obvious to us their brand of 'team ball', contagious passing and always on the lookout for better shot kinda like those gents over at ROARACLE arena.  Seriously, well deserved accolades.  Bottle it up boys!

Pegasus Bags Season I

Pegasus took the hard road to victory as they found themselves down 18 early in the first half in LigaLeague's first championship. As they weathered VCST's barrage of shots, they were not missing much, they were able to regroup and clamped on defense as they cut the deficit to 6pts at halftime, 31-25.
