Football Coaching Tips
Offensive Coaching Tips
*Keep the defense guessing. Don't fall into a trap of always running on first down or passing on third down.
*If your team receives a long penalty don't try to make up the lost yardage on one play.
*If your team is backed into a deep hole, consider using a quick kick on third down to catch the defense off guard.
*Your team's field position should help dictate the type of plays that are called. For example, long passes are dangerous near your own goal line; plays that involve trickery or deception are typically best if used around the midfield area; quick-hitting pass plays are good to use near the opponent's goal line.
*If the opposition's secondary plays deep, utilize a variety of short passes to lure them in, and then try a long pass.
Defensive Coaching Tips
*Different pass rushers should be used to confuse the offense, and linebackers can be sent in at different times as an element of surprise.
*Assign specific players the responsibility of containing the quarterback or running back inside so they can't get outside for a big gain.
*Defensive backs should not turn their backs on the pass receivers. They should be running backward or sideways so that they can always see the ball and the pass receiver.
