Clarence Reds win the New Era Cap Classic

The Clarence Red 10u Travel Baseball team recently won the New Era Cap Classic Tournament. Clarence first met the Titans in tournament play. Behind the strong arm of pitcher, Will Hurwitz, Clarence easily defeated the Titans 17-2. Next match was another win (9-1) against New Era Blue. Ethan Bishara was a standout on the mound while Jason Berchou and Aidan Wallace went 2-3 at the plate. Clarence then defeated Rochester Renegades 19-2. Ethan Yang, Isaiah Corry, Luke Pavicich, Matt Brown and Jackson Wurtz combined 10/12 at the plate with 5 doubles, 5 singles & accounted for 15 of the 19 runs. The Southtown Nights were next in line for Clarence Red. Stellar pitching from Wallace and outstanding hits by Lucas McDowell, Hurwitz & Bishara helped secure an 11-3 win. The semi-final match up was against the Titans. Clarence Red's team hitting streak led by Jack Vorrueter guided them to another win (14-2). The championship game proved to be a tougher contest for Clarence. The match up against New Era Gold was exciting and fun. Clarence Red was ahead in the fourth inning 3-1, but New Era came back to tie it up. Clarence Red then answered with 3 more runs in the 5th inning. Clarence then found themselves down by 1 run, 7-6, going into the bottom of the 7th. Corry led off the inning with a walk and stealing two bases to get to 3rd. Pavicich then drove in Corry with a hard hit single. Brown answered with another hard hit single. With a man on 2nd & 3rd, Yang steps up to the plate. With a 3-2 count, Yang ripped a line drive down 3rd base line to bring in Pavicich and score the winning run and secure the Championship.

Clarence Reds win the Lou Gehrig "Iron Horse" Tournament

After winning the New Era Cap Classic last weekend, the Clarence Reds continued thier dominance in the Lou Gehrig "Iron Horse" Tournament. In preliminary play, Clarence shut out KenTon Coyotes 5-0, defeated the Titans 13-5 and beat the Canadaigua Braves 10-4. In the quarter and semi finals, Clarence defeated Lancaster Fury 9-1 and then mercied the Titans 13-3 with great hits by Berchou. The championship game v Lou Gehrig Red Dragons was a scoreless battle for the first two innings. But in the 3rd, with multiple gap hits from the Red Dragons along with some uncharacteristic defensive plays by Clarence, Clarence found themselves trailing 6-1 after 5. However, in the top of the last inning with Clarence up to bat, Vorretuer led off with a single and Bishara drew a walk. After 2 quick outs by the next two batters, Clarence Reds were down to their last out. Pavicich stepped up and got drilled in the forearm which loaded the bases. Next, Brown stroked a single to score a run; bases were still loaded with 2 outs. Wallace on a 2-2 count blasted a ball to deep right field for a bases clearing triple - 3 runs scored (6-5). Next at bat, also with a 2-2 count, Yang came through with a hard hit single to bring in the tying run at 6. Then Wurtz kept it going with a hard hit base clearing double to put Clarence up 1. With another single by Hurwitz and a rocket double by Mcdowell, Clarence took the lead 9-6. With a comfortable 3 run cushion, Wallace locked it up with his arm and Corry made an oustanding defensive play to secure a back to back championship win for Clarence Reds!

Clarence Reds Champions of the Lancaster-Depew Summer Blowout Tournament

Clarence 10u Reds wins 3rd Championship in a row. Entering into the Lancaster-Depew Blowout tournament this past weekend July 25th – 29th, Clarence 10u Reds coached by Paul Pavicich, Brett McDowell, Doug Wurtz and Frank Yang, have won the New Era Cap Classic tournament (July 13 -15th) and the Lou Gehrig “Iron Horse” tournament (July 18-22nd) in back to back weeks. This week proved to be no different. Clarence Reds jumped out to yet another fast start by beating their opponents by 9 runs or more and mercying 3 of the 6 teams they faced. In preliminary play, Clarence defeated the Titans 14-1, defeated Orchard Park Heat 13-3 and defeated Northtown Nationals 17-7. With a perfect record from preliminary play, Clarence faced the Southline Flames in quarterfinals play and continued their dominance beating them 12-0 in 3.5 innings. In the Semifinals, Clarence faced an EMW Tribe team who were also 4-0 entering into this matchup. Clarence showed no signs of weakness and they went on defeating EMW Tribe by a score of 13-4. Moving on to Championship play, Clarence Reds team faced a talented Lou Gehrig Blue team. However, with strong pitching and stifling defensive plays, Clarence dominated and went on mercying the Lou Gehrig Blue team by a score of 18-4 after 3.5 innings of play. Clarence is looking to remain perfect for the 2012 season in tournament play in the 2012 Clarence Summer Classic Tournament beginning Thursday Aug 2nd 2012.

Clarence Reds falls to Lou Gehrig Red Dragons in 7

Clarence Reds have gone undefeated in Tournament play this year leading up to the Championship Game of the 2012 Clarence Summer Classic. It was a pitching and defensive battle between Clarence Reds and Lou Gehrig Red dragons. These two teams always play each other tough and if you recall, Clarence Reds a few weeks back won the Championship at Lou Gehrig's home turf. With a 3-2 lead in the 6th inning, Clarence Reds could not hold their opponent as the Red Dragons came back to tie the game at 3. Failing to score in the bottom of the 6th, the game went into extra innings. In the Top of the 7th, Red dragons went a head by 1 with a 4-3 lead on back to back singles. In the bottom of the 7th, Clarence Reds had bases loaded with 1 out but could not capitalize on the opportunity and the game would end 4-3 Lou Gehrig Red Dragons over Clarence Reds. Although losing their first Championship game in 8 tournaments - The Clarence Reds still showed their dominance and why they are the team to beat for many years to come. They have won 7 out of 8 consecutive tournaments since 2011. For this year alone, Clarence reds have a tournament record of 22 wins and 1 loss with 258 runs scored and only 71 runs against.
