Pig Tail League
Grades: Pre - K -- K
Practices: Twice a week (45 min practices)
Location: Rock Ledge Park
The Pig Tail league is an introductory softball league. The main objective is to teach the players the basic skills of throwing, fielding and hitting in a positive non-competitive environment. All players will be pitched to by a coach unless the player struggles, then a tee is provided.
8U League
Grades: 1st and 2nd
Practices: Twice a week
Location: Rock Ledge Park, game locations vary dependent on the Badgerland League Schedule
The 8U league continues to build on the fundamentals taught in the Pig Tail league. The league follows the basic rules except for the following:
- 8U league games are coach pitched. Coaches must pitch from within the circle (35 feet)
- Balls are not called, rather after four pitches are pitched, the batter will hit off a tee.
- Strikes are called. Three strikes equal an out.
- The batting order continues until everyone has batted
- The inning is over when the offense makes 3 outs or when everyone in the batting order bats.
- The games will last 6 innings or 45 minutes. All batters and runners must wear a safety approved helmet with earflaps. These helmets are provided.
10U, 12U and 14U Leagues
Grades: 3rd - 8th
Practices: Determined by the coach
Games: 1 or 2 a week
At this level the main objectives include safety, basic skill development and the advanced understanding of softball strategy, i.e., rules, decision making, pitching and catching. The teams gain more game experience in a competitive environment, without the tournament team atmosphere. The main emphasis continues to be having fun.
Traveling Teams
Grades: 8U-14U
Practices: To be determined by the coach
Games: 3 - 5 tournaments during the summer
Locations: Games are played at the hosting tournament team's diamonds
Playing on a traveling team gives the opportunity to represent Seymour Softball and play against teams outside of the community recreation league. Winning and competition does have a higher priority than the normal league play. It enhances the development of the player's fundamental skills and team building with an overall advanced softball strategy. Travel on weekends for these tournaments will be required. Travel costs are the responsibilities of the family.
