Congrats Kaydence and Sonia - our Junior Olympians
Congratulations Kaydence (9-10) and Sonia (13-14) in their Cross Country POST Season competitions in both USATF and AAU. Kaydence, a sprinter and long jumper in the Spring 2021 track and field season, stretched her short quick distances to a 3K in the Fall. Attacking the courses one at a time, she pursued the post season and participated in not ONE but TWO national qualifying meets and National Championships. Her post season running partner and teammate, Sonia, extended her long distance running to the post season too. Both girls supported and encouraged each other as they trained for this very elite experience. In the USATF qualifier, Kaydence placed 2nd with a time of 13.33, while Sonia placed 5th completing her 4K in 19.47. Up next was the AAU District qualifer, Kaydence placed 3rd with a Personal Record (PR) time of 12.55. Sonia wrapped up her post season placing 12th in 19.57. Forging ahead, Kaydence finished 37th out of 104 10 year old girls, and 54 out of 169 in a time of 13.02 in the AAU Junior Olympics. She wrapped up her post season in Kentucky, the day after the devastating tornado stormed through, creating a messy and treacherous course. She finished 80 out of 266 in 13.59 in the USATF Nationals! Way to go ladies!
