Caledonia Flag Rugby rules
1. Team
Teams consist of 5-12 players. 5 to 7 players are on the field at one time. If a team has more than 7 the game is stopped and non-offending team will gain possession of the ball in the other teams half or current spot of play, whichever is closer to the offending team try line.
Substitutes can be made at every restart (try/whistle). This must be done in quick fashion as play will not be halted to allow the exchange.
TEAMS THAT ARE NOT PLAYING WILL PROVIDED PLAYERS TO OFFICIATE THE GAMES BEING PLAYED
2. Game
Games are two 10 minute halves. To start the game for each half and after a try a drop kick will take place at half. Players have 30 seconds to set up for the restart after a try.
A try is scored when a player grounds the ball over try line without being tagged/ losing their flag. One point each.
No kicks besides restarts are allowed. Offending player has to sub off and non-offending team will gain possession of the ball in other teams half or current spot of play, whichever is closer to the offending team’s try line.
All whistled change of possessions are restarted with a tap on the mark provided by the official and offending team is back 5 meters.
The player picking up the ball (scrum half) may run, but if “tackled” a change of possession will occur. (You can pick and go but you better score)
No “scrum half” picks within 5 meters of the try line. Result is a turnover.
When a player is scoring a try they may not dive towards the try line in an attempt to score. Result turnover.
3. Infractions- Offending team is Back 5 meters.
Knock On – when the ball has gone forward from any part of the players body it will be ruled a knock on. If the non-offending team gains possession the game will continue. If the offending teams gains possession the game will restart. Officials will pay advantage
Forward Pass- if the ball is passed forward the non-offending team will restart the game.
Offside – the defensive team must give one meter from the “tackle”. Officials will play advantage.
Obstruction- Players may not run in front of or block for the player in possession of the ball.
Dangerous Play- Any physical aggression or abusive language will result in the player being removed from the current game. If the player continues these actions they will be removed from the league.
4. Flags – Flags must not be covered by any article of clothing, wrapped around flag belt, and players may not stop players from grabbing them.
Flags must hang on the side of the person body, not the front or back. Offending player has to sub and non-offending team will gain possession of the ball in other teams half or current spot of play, whichever is closer to the offending team try line.
When a defender removes a flag the player with the ball must place it at the spot of the “tackle” and both players may not continue play until the flag is back on.
Players must have two hands on the ball when within 2 meters of defending player.
When the flag is removed from a player as a player passes the ball the official will call play on or tackle.
No spinning out of tackles or jumping. Result is a turnover.
