Fontana Community Little League is set to begin its Second Season of the Challenger Division. The Challenger Division has been part of Little League since 1989 as a separate division of Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Today, more than 30,000 children participate in more than 900 Challenger Divisions worldwide.
We anticipate continuing to have 1 to 2 teams and are making efforts in our community to recruit volunteers and players. Our Team (s) will include a wide range of ages and ability. They will include up to as many as 15 players and games will be played as a combination of Tee Ball and coach pitch.
Each player gets a chance to bat. The side is retired when the offense has batted through the roster. No score will kept during Challenger games. Players wear the same uniforms, shoulder patches and safety equipment as other divisions at Fontana Community Little League.
Challenger teams will play once a week on Saturdays and have a practice once a week. Games will last 50 minutes. Players will be assigned a “Buddy” who will assist the players on the field, but whenever possible, encourage the players to bat and make plays themselves. However, the “buddy” is always nearby to help when needed.
After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, “buddies”, parents, coaches and managers may become involved in practices and games.
Our “Buddies” will be players from our FCLL Baseball/Softball Major and Junior Teams. Managers and Coaches from our other divisions will assist in the same roles or take on other roles such as umpires or announcers.
Come out and be part of our COMMUNITY and history of FCLL! Don’t miss out on the rewarding experience!
