Farewell to the 4 12 year olds on the team. Ty Mance, Tyler Smallwood, Chad O'Neal and David Baker will all be missed. It was a pleasure to have all 4 players on the team.

Orioles outlast Cardinals in a slugfest

The season finale for the Dapper Dan Major division turned out to be the slugfest of the season with the Orioles and Cardinals combining for 42 runs with the O's prevailing 24-18. Darian Roddy, Ty Mance and Kelian Baker all pitched an inning before Rashaan Haines pitched 3 strong innings out of the bullpen. The story of the game were the bats. Tyler Smallwood led the team with 4 hits including a home run to go along with a triple and 2 singles and 3 RBIs. Ty Mance had 3 hits with a triple, double and a single and 2 RBIs. Also adding hits were Jaden Jessie and David Baker with doubles and Darian Roddy with a triple. The team ended the game with 19 hits. It was a fun game to be a part of for sure.

The Reds scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th and hung on to win the game 12-11. Darian Roddy highlighted the 6th inning with a 2 run HR and also had a double and single on the night to go with his 4 RBIs. Also ripping the ball for the Red Birds was Ty Mance with 3 hits, a triple and 2 singles with 3 runs scored. Tyler Smallwood had a double and a single including 1 RBI. Also adding hits were Haden DeHaven and Rashaan Haines with singles. Grant Clayton got the start on the mound and pitched 3 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 7 runs. Haden DeHaven came on in the 4th to get one out on a bang bang play at the plate on a passed ball. Jaden Jessie pitched the last 2 innings striking out 5 and walking only 1. Rashaan Haines threw out his 9th runner of the season on the bases. A number that probably leads all catchers in the league. The Cardinals play Wednesday night against the streaking Phillies at 730. Pictures are set for 615 at the Mayor's Monument behind the field.

4th inning eruption drops Cardinals to 5-6

The Tigers erupted for 11 runs in the 4th inning to make a very good and competitive game a 10 run rule game. The Cardinals were leading 2-1 going into the 4th inning but could not get out of the inning. Darian Roddy had the Cardinals lone hit, a single in the top of the 4th and came around to score. The teams other base runners were Grant Clayton with 2 walks, Ty Mance with a walk and a run scored and Rashaan Haines with a walk. The team now sits at 5-6 on the outside of the playoffs with 3 games to go. The team looks to rebound Tuesday vs the Reds.

Cardinals fall to .500 with 9-5 loss to the Athletics

The Red Birds fell to 5-5 with a 9-5 loss to the Athletics on Tuesday evening. The team played decent but was hampered by walks and didn't come up with the clutch hit. Cardinal pitchers walked 7 batters and 5 of them came around to score. Grant Clayton got the start on the mound and pitched 4 strong innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 4. Haden DeHaven came in the game in the 5th inning to pitch the final two innings, giving up 2 runs and 2 hits. The leading hitter for the Cardinals was once again Darian Roddy with 3 singles and 2 runs scored. Also with multiple hits was Kelian Baker with 2 singles. Other players with hits were Ty Mance with a double and a RBI and 2 runs scored and Rashaan Haines with a single. Kelian Baker came up huge with a great catch in right field near the fence in foul territory. The team played much better in the field and had zero errors. Jaden Jessie threw a few players out at 1st base after fielding ground balls. The team heads down the last part of the season on Friday night with a game against the 2nd place Tigers. Thankfully this will be the teams last 5:30 game of the season. It will also be the last road game.

Cardinals lose heartbreaker to the Pirates

The Red Birds lost a tough one on Saturday night 11-10 to the Pirates. It is the teams 4th loss of the season and the 3rd loss with the game-winning run on base. We are just a few hits away from 1st place. Jaden Jessie pitched the entire game giving up 7 hits and striking out 6 while giving up 6 earned runs. The leading hitter for the Cards was Darian Roddy were 3 singles, 3 runs scored and an RBI. David Baker had a triple in the 4th inning on a rope hit to right field. Trevor Bates also had a walk and scored a run. The Cardinals look to rebound on Tuesday against the first place Athletics.

Ty Mance hits game winning double in All-Star game

Ty Mance ended the 2010 Dapper Dan All-Star game with a double in the bottom of the 6th to win the game for his team 10-9. All 4 Cardinal All-Stars shined in the mid-season classic. Ty had a double and triple with 2 RBIs and a run scored and made a few plays in the field including a game saver in the top of the 6th by not letting a ball go to the outfield that would've gave the other team the lead. Darian Roddy was the winning pitcher and had 2 RBI's with a run scored and had a few forceouts in the field. Grant Clayton had a single in his only at bat and scored a run. Haden DeHaven was on base both times at bat and had a single and 2 RBIs. I am very proud of all 4 Cardinals and the way they played today. On the day the Cardinal players were 4-7 and were on base 7 out of 8 at bats, had 3 runs scored and 6 RBIs.

Haden DeHaven added to the All-Star game

Haden DeHaven has been added to the All-Star team in replace of teammate Tyler Smallwood. Congrats to Haden and good luck later this evening.

Rashaan Haines threw out 3 runners at 3rd base including the last out of the game and tagged out a runner on a delayed steal of home. The Cardinals play the Orioles Tuesday evening in a battle of 3-2 teams.

Cardinals get mauled by the Tigers

The Tigers showed up Tuesday at the Park with an empty stomach and left the field with a stomach filled with Cardinals. From the get go the Tigers showed up to play and took advantage of poor play by the Red Birds. Darian Roddy did a decent job throwing strikes only walking two batters but was hurt by 4 errors behind him. Haden DeHaven came in and pitched the final 3 innings, striking out 4 batters. The Cardinals only had 3 hits, a single each by Darian Roddy and Haden DeHaven and a 2 RBI single by Kelian Baker. Trevor Bates scored a run after a walk in the 3rd inning. The Cardinals lost their first game of the season 3-2 to the Athletics to fall to 2-1 on the season. Jaden Jessie pitched another great game pitching 5 innings allowing only 1 earned run, giving up 4 hits and striking out 8. Ty also had a single and counted for 4 RBIs and made a big move to centerfield in the field and caught a flyball in the 4th inning. Tyler Smallwood contributed 3 hits and was a home run shy of the cycle with a triple, double and a single. Darian Roddy hit a double and came around to score on errors and put the ball in play all 3 times at bat. Rashaan Haines hit a double, scored 2 runs and knocked in 1 run. Jaden Jessie had a rbi double in his only plate appearance of the evening. Haden DeHaven had a single and scored 2 runs and made his move to 2nd base in the field. Grant Clayton scored a run and had single. Kelian Baker had a single in the 4th inning and came around to score. Eric Clayton walked for the third straight at bat and scored a run and David Baker had a RBI groundout in the 3rd inning. The team worked on cutting down on strikeouts Saturday at practice and it showed after having 28 strikeouts in the previous 2 games the team only struck out 6 times against the Dodgers. Hopefully the team keeps putting the ball in play Wednesday night against the much improved Pirates.

Cardinals move to 2-0 with 14-4 win over the Dodgers

The Red Birds advanced to 2-0 with a 14-4 win over the Dodgers. The team started out slow but erupted for multiple runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings to beat Big Blue by the 10 run rule. The leading hitter for the Red Birds was Ty Mance who was a Home Run short of the cycle with a triple, double and single and also contributed 2 RBIs. The Cardinals meet up against the leagues only other 2-0 team, the Athletics, Friday evening at 5:30 with first place on the line, arrival time is set for 4:50.

Red Birds open the season with 11-4 victory over the Bucs

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon the Cardinals opened the Dapper Dan Major Division season with a 11-4 victory over the Pirates. Jaden Jessie put the rest of the league on notice with one of the best 10 year old pitching performances on opening day in recent memory. Jaden pitched 4 innings, striking out 9 and only walking 1 while giving up 2 unearned runs. Grant Clayton came on in relief in the 5th inning and wrapped the game up with 2 strong innings out of the bullpen. Leading the Cardinals at the plate with 4 total bases was another 10 year old, Rashaan Haines, with a double and 2 singles along with 2 RBIs. Haden DeHaven also put on a great showing for the 10 year olds with 2 singles, 2 runs scored while reaching base 3 times. Not to be out done by the young Cardinal newcomers were the teams 12 year old cornerstone, dynamic duo dubbed "TNT", Tyler Smallwood and Ty Mance. Ty had 3 singles while scoring 2 runs and knocking in 1 run. Smallwood hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and added 2 RBIs. Both added great up the middle team defense. Kelian Baker extended his non-strikeout game streak to 10 while hitting a double, scoring a run and had 1 RBI. Chad O'Neal also hit a double and scored a run and reached base on a rare catcher's interference. Also adding to the Cardinal hit outburst was Darian Roddy with 2 singles and 2 RBIs. One of the biggest at bats of the game came in the top of the 3rd inning with the Cardinals leading 4-2 with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Trevor Bates drew a walk on 9 pitches which allowed the team to score 3 more runs in the inning. Eric Clayton did a great job in left field and was in position at all times and moved to back up all plays while in the game, something not done by all outfielders on all teams at this level. The win was truly a team effort all the way down the roster. The Cardinals next game will be Wednesday vs the Dodgers at 7:30.
