Dear Parents:
Since our beginnings in 2000 we have provided almost 900 young people (both boys and girls) with the opportunity to participate in organized Basketball at the Recreation, AAU and YBOA levels in Ann Arundel County. Our Teams since 2001 have qualified for the National Invitational and the Division I and II AAU and YBOA National Championships more then a dozen times.
Since 2001 our teams have won more than 22 Championships at the Local and State levels. In 2004 for the first time we had a Girls Team qualify for the Division I National Championship and for the three years to follow (2005/2006/2007) we had one team win the Maryland State AAU Championship in their age bracket (9U/10U/11U). Still another Girls Team participated in the D-II National Championships in their age bracket (12U/13U/14U) for (3) years in a row, and during the 2005 season our Travel Team qualified for and won the Ann Arundel County Summer League Junior Division (JV) Championship. Starting in the 2007 Season our Boys Program became very active again with teams in three age groups (12U/13U/14U) with the older teams faring very well at tournaments in Ocean City and North Carolina. In the years that followed these teams won 5 Individual Tournament Championships and 2 Maryland State Division I and II AAU State Championships. Add to these accomplishments the fact that every member of our older girls and boys teams for the last ten years have made either their Varsity or Junior Varsity High School Team and you could say that MYBA has something to celebrate.
After having won all of the previously mentioned State and Local Championships over the years we have done so while never losing site of our original goal….to teach players to love and respect the game of Basketball. And although you will find listed on this page instances of our on court accomplishments, we will not leave unmentioned all the 3.5 GPA’s, the 1000+ SAT’s, and National Honor Society Selection’s because they have been just as important to us as PPG’s and Rebounds.
Add to these impressive statistics the fact that our alumni list of players who either got the beginnings or some part of their early development with MYBA and went on to play College Basketball includes Kristie Watkins (Old Mill/Temple University), Omara Parker (Annapolis/Towson University), Demearia Liles (Riverdale Baptist/Maryland University), Myeisha Myles (Meade/Texas A&M), Nika Dobbins (Bowie State), Aleshia Chamblis and Rae Parker (Stevenson University), Jasmine Smith and Raven Parks (St Marys), Deana Harman (Delaware State), Carly Conley (West Florida), Ebony Jones (LaSalle University) on the girls side. Juan Wansley (Arundel/Frostburg State), Hezekiah Barrett (Meade High/New Jersey) Devon Jones (Old Mill/Salisbury State,) Kelvis DuBois (Fredrickburg Community) and Ray Williams (Meade/Salisbury State) on the boys side. And again if you remember that all of these players got their AAU or some part of their Basketball start with MYBA, then you have the kind of Basketball organization that people should be proud to be a part of.
Looking to the future we plan to have teams qualify for both the AAU and YBOA National Championships in several age groups both Boys and Girls. All this while ensuring that each and every player stays focused on the major goal we have set for our kids…… Learn to love the game, and respect themselves.
Why don't you come join us!!
