HIGHLIGHTS: Junior Angelo Petrakis won 11 of 13 faceoffs and added eight ground balls for Massapequa in their 7-2 grind-it-out win over 3rd seeded Syosset (10-7). The Massapequa defense shut out the Braves for over 36 minutes between the second and the fourth quarters and they scored five consecutive goals in the second half to extend their 2-1 halftime lead. Game MVP Garrett Gibbons had a goal, an assist and was stellar between the lines for Massapequa (17-1).

The undefeated Seahawks (18-0) received seven points (five goals) from Laviano and four points plus nine faceoff wins from Matt Licciardi against an overmatched Owls squad that finished the season 10-8. Licciardi assisted on three straight goals in the first quarter that gave Cold Spring Harbor a 4-0 lead at the end of the period.

HIGHLIGHTS: Manhasset (15-2) captured its third straight Nassau Class C championship by defeating Cold Spring Harbor, 9-4. Manhasset, the defending Class C New York State champion, opened up a 5-1 lead in the second period that the Seahawks (15-3) could not overcome.  The victory was the 13th overall Nassau title in school history for the Indians, and the second straight over Cold Spring Harbor.

HIGHLIGHTS: Undefeated Manhasset avoided the upset when Matt Bitter scored the game-winning goal with 2:10 left in overtime against Cold Spring Harbor (11-6).  Down 8-4 late in the third quarter, the Indians (17-0) scored four consecutive goals to force the extra period despite a great game by Seahawks goalkeeper Adam Ghitelman (22 saves).  For Manhasset it was their second overtime victory of the season over Cold Spring Harbor.

HIGHLIGHTS: Farmingdale (19-0), the nation’s top ranked team by Inside Lacrosse, won its second straight Nassau Class A championship over Syosset (13-4-1).  The Braves, making their first appearance in the title game in school history, received a huge 31 save effort from all-American Danny Loftus.  The Dalers took 57 shots in the contest and were led by game MVP Matt Danowski’s seven goals.  Danowski’s father, John, also won the game MVP award for East Meadow in 1972.

The third-seeded Vikings (11-6-1) came out on fire until Manhasset coach Alan Lowe made a goalie change, inserting John Adomvich midway through the first quarter.  Then the Indians (17-1) rallied, slowing down a Seaford team appearing in its first Nassau championship in school history.

HIGHLIGHTS: Underdog Lynbrook (13-5) used a strong defensive performance and timely saves by goalie Tom Skatsiaris to defeat top-seeded Garden City, 5-4.  The Owls last won a Nassau Class B title in 1999, and repeated in 2000 as a Class C school.   Garden City (15-4) trailed 5-2 with just over seven minutes left in the game, and rallied with two straight goals before Skatsiaris made a last second save to preserve the win for Lynbrook.

HIGHLIGHTS: In one of the biggest upsets in Nassau playoff history, Massapequa (14-5) defeated Farmingdale (17-2) to win its first county championship since 1974.  The Chiefs led 12-8 with under three minutes left in regulation, but thanks to the play of all-American attackman Kevin Brennan, the Dalers rallied to close within one with just under a minute left.  Massapequa goalie Michael Draper (17 saves) came up with a key stop and the Chiefs held on for the win.  Farmingdale had beaten Massapequa earlier in the season 12-3, but over 800 fans saw the underdogs pull off the upset in the rematch.

HIGHLIGHTS: Garden City won its second straight Nassau Class B championship by defeating previously unbeaten Manhasset, 8-5.  The Trojans (16-1), had lost to the Indians, 13-12, when the two met earlier in the season.  But Garden City returned the favor in the final behind the work of game MVP Mike Ferrucci, who scored three times in a minute during the second quarter when the score was 2-0 Manhasset (16-1).  In the fourth quarter with the score tied at 5, the Trojans reeled off the game’s final three goals for the victory, two by attackman Chris Massey.  Attackman Ferrucci was the first repeat winner of the MVP since Vincent Marinelli of Elmont in 1986 and 1987.

HIGHLIGHTS: Game MVP Andy Marinos won 13 of 18 faceoffs and scored three goals to lead Lynbrook to its first county championship in school history by defeating Garden City (16-1), 8-6. The Owls (15-3), which had lost four consecutive Class B championships from 1986-1989, dominated the first half but were still tied at halftime, 5-5.  Marinos scored his third goal off a faceoff win midway through the third quarter that gave Lynbrook a three goal lead at 8-5.  The Lynbrook defense held the two-time defending B champs scoreless in the fourth quarter for the upset victory.

HIGHLIGHTS: Down six goals late in the third quarter, Elmont (19-2) rallied for an improbable 12-11 overtime win over League E rival Lynbrook (18-3).  The Owls dominated the game early, but when Elmont started scoring in the fourth quarter, even All-American goalie Quint Kessenich was powerless to stop them.  Bill Negrycz sent the game into overtime with a goal on a pass from Matt Panetta, and with 57 seconds left in the first overtime Vincent Marinelli, the game MVP, picked up a loose ball in front of the Lynbrook goal and scored the game winner. Both games during the regular season were won by Lynbrook, 7-2 and 11-7, and were Elmont’s only two losses on the season against Nassau opponents.

Garden City midfielder Robert Griffith scored with 58 seconds left in sudden death to give the Trojans their first Nassau lacrosse championship since 1966. The game featured a matchup of future coaching legends Bill Tierney of Memorial and Tom Flatley of Sewanhaka. HIGHLIGHTS: Rick Riccardi scored three goals and added an assist to lead Cold Spring Harbor to their first Nassau County championship.  The Seahawks received excellent goaltending from George Gehnrich in the victory over defending champion Farmingdale (17-6).  Riccardi’s points all came in the second half for Cold Spring Harbor and Head Coach Jim Frank (14-4).

HIGHLIGHTS:
Undefeated Farmingdale (20-0) used a physical defensive game and timely offense to win the first county title in school history.  Lynbrook, coached by Tony Seaman, rode a 17 save performance from Mike Maxwell to keep the game close.  The Dalers were led by twins Rick and Ray Giusto, who combined for three goals and won 11 of 14 faceoffs. The Owls finished the season with a record of 18-4.

Elmont won its 20th game of the season defeating Manhasset for the Nassau title.  Game MVP Joe Castellaneta led the Spartans to a 7-4 halftime lead, but when Rob Serling scored for the Indians with 31 seconds left, they were within one goal.  Manhasset went man-up in the final seconds but could not tally the tying goal.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Midfielder John Driscoll scored four goals to lead Manhasset (17-2) to its second straight Nassau County championship.  Driscoll, who was the MVP in 1975 as well, scored the third and fourth goals for Manhasset that gave them a 4-2 lead early in the third quarter.  The Indians defense was led by goalie Bob Cowin, who made 18 saves.  Sewanhaka entered the game undefeated and finished the season at 18-1.

Manhasset (13-6), led by game MVP John Driscoll, defeated unbeaten Elmont for its first Nassau title since 1967.  The Spartans, winners of nineteen straight games were outscored in the middle two quarters 9-2 by the Indians in front of a crowd of over 4,000.  First year head coach Alan Lowe lead Manhasset to its fifth Nassau title in school history.

HIGHLIGHTS: Massapequa (14-6) won its first Nassau County lacrosse championship in school history and the fifth consecutive victory for a South Shore school over their North Shore opponents in the championship game.  Led by game MVP Tom Marino’s five goals, Massapequa broke open a close game that was tied 5-5 late in the third quarter with two consecutive goals that gave the Chiefs the lead for good.  Massapequa coach Pat Oleksiak won his 101st game with the victory.

HIGHLIGHTS: Down 3-0, two-time defending champion East Meadow (17-3) outscored North Shore champion Garden City (17-2) 10-2 over the next sixteen minutes to win the Nassau championship.  Led by game MVP Mickey Menna’s four goals and the outstanding play of defenseman Chuck Apel, the Jets avenged a 9-2 mid-April loss to the Trojans.  Apel held Garden City’s All-American attackman Peter Hollis to two points in the victory and East Meadow won 13 of 17 first half faceoffs for coach Jack Kaley.  The loss was the final game for retiring Garden City coach Julio Silvestri.

With less than 40 seconds left in the game and the score tied at 4, Gary Marangi found Richie Klein on the crease for the game-winning goal in Elmont's first Nassau County championship in school history.  Manhasset goalie Matt Levine was outstanding in defeat and was named game MVP.  The game was played in front over an announced crowd of 5,641.  The Spartans, in only their fourth season of varsity lacrosse, remained undefeated at 20-0, while Manhasset finished at 16-3.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Down 5-4 entering the fourth quarter, Herricks attackman Dave Bayly had a hand in three consecutive goals-assists to Pete Fiordelisi and Don Birsner and a goal with 4:09 left in the game-to give the Highlanders (16-1) the lead for good in their 9-5 win over Uniondale in the Nassau County Championship game. Game MVP Bayly finished with three goals and four assists and Scott Mass won 9 of 14 faceoffs to lead Herricks who had lost in the final the year before to East Meadow.

After suffering defeats in the 1965 and 1966 Nassau Championship games, undefeated East Meadow (20-0) finally broke through to win their first championship, defeating Herricks 11-2.  Game MVP’s Jim Wermlinger and Billy Reid combined for five goals and three assists in the first half as the Jets raced out to a 10-0 halftime lead. East Meadow outshot the Highlanders 23-6 in the first half. The Highlanders finished the season at 12-5.
