Girls Lacrosse Equipment

A Guide for Parents of New Players

GIRLS LACROSSE REQUIRES 4 MAIN PIECES OF EQUIPMENT TO PLAY:

ü  Crosse (Girls Lacrosse Stick)

ü  Goggles

ü  Mouth guard-must be colored; cannot be clear or white. Cannot have anything attached

to the front. Must cover all upper teeth

ü  Lacrosse Ball- girls play with yellow certified US Lacrosse balls

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT INCLUDES:

ü  Cleats-very good idea to prevent slippage and potential injury on the field.

ü  Field Gloves- for when it’s very cold out. Must be lacrosse field gloves, not goalie gloves, and not regular winter gloves.

ü  Gear Bag- So everything is together, and nothing’s missing for games/practice.

ü  Rebounder/Goal- For practicing at home.

HERES SOME ADDITIONAL INFO ON THE BASICS:

CROSSE (Girls lacrosse stick): Be sure to get a girls stick. Boys’ sticks have large mesh pockets, girls sticks do not. Look for a stick with an “offset” head.(see below) If you look at the stick from the side, an offset head dips down, allowing for a deeper ball set… easier to catch and hold onto. The non-offset heads are straight across, and do not allow for as deep a pocket. (Refs do stick checks at the beginning of each game to be sure the top of the ball sits above the sidewall of the stick.) All sticks come one length… they are cut down to fit the players’ size. See your coach for more info.
