Elizabeth N. Scott
Mrs. Elizabeth Nuttall "Beth" Scott graduated as valedictorian from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1975. She attended William and Mary University and graduated with her teaching degree in 1979. Beth arrived in Chesterfield County in 1980 where she began teaching 4th grade and then 5th grade at Bellwood Elementary School. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1983, she became the Assistant Principal at Enon Elementary School. She went on to serve as Assistant Principal at Reams Road Elementary School and eventually became the Principal at Enon Elementary School. In 2001, Beth retired as the Principal of Enon Elementary School.
Beth married Giles F. Scott, Jr. in October 1982 and in July of 1990 their family grew to three with the birth of their son, Christopher T. Scott. With Beth’s love of education and her ability to be a compassionate leader who nurtured the best from others, she served on the Board of Directors of Bon View School and volunteered at Chalkley Elementary School through the “Chalkley Connection” sponsored by Bon Air United Methodist Church. Travel was also a joy of Beth’s and she volunteered with the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. As a devoted member of Bon Air United Methodist Church, she actively participated in the Discovery Sunday School class and in Disciple Bible Study.
Those who knew Beth, remember her as a positive inspiration of how to live life to its fullest demonstrating kindness, patience, courage and perseverance. She had an immense love for God, her family, education and travel. Mrs. Lisa Blevins, who is currently a second grade teacher at Scott Elementary, shared that “Beth was an inspiration to so many people! As one of the many teachers who worked under Beth's amazing leadership, I feel so blessed to have known her. She was a special lady who will never be forgotten.”
Following an extensive grassroots effort sponsored by the teachers at Enon Elementary School, the decision to honor Beth Scott by naming our school after her was decided in November 2006 by the Chesterfield County School Board.
On May 18, 2008, a ceremony was held to dedicate our school to the memory of Mrs. Scott. The Honorable Marshall Trammell, Jr., Bermuda District representative and vice-chairman of the Chesterfield County School Board, was the guest speaker for the ceremony. Mrs. Lisa Gwaltney, a kindergarten teacher at Scott Elementary and former colleague of Mrs. Scott, shared her personal and professional memories of Mrs. Scott. Lexus Green, a fifth grade student at Scott Elementary and school-wide winner of the writing contest, read her essay "Education Can Take You Places" to the standing-room-only audience. The Third Grade Class sang a song written for the event by David Atkins, our music resource teacher. You can listen to a recording of the song by clicking on the title, "Because Of You".
We, at the Scott Athletic Association, Inc., feel an incredible sense of loyalty and honor to carry on her view of life and love of education.
