On January 13, 2002 we lost two hockey referees in a car accident while traveling home to Kelowna
from a Junior Hockey game played in Revelstoke B.C.
Blair and Bill were two young men who competed in every hockey game they were assigned. Both were establishing
themselves in the officiating aspect of every game as true competitors. They came to each game ready to work
as hard as the players in order to provide a level playing field for the game.
Blair Dietz and Bill Wylie came to the rink with the same criteria that the team chosen by the on ice officials
of the Kelowna International Elite Midget Tournament will have met in earning this award.
This Trophy recognizes the whistle as the tool of the trade and the lightning bolts as the catalyst
in the speed of the decision making, the same tools as a players stick and puck.
The subjective reaction, rather than thought, makes the officials and players successful.
CRITERIA AS A TEAM
They will show great work ethic during their game.
Establish support with game officials and teammates that benefit the game.
Play aggressively while challenging their opponent within the guidelines of fair play.
Encouraged by their coaching staff to play fair, honest and firm.
Accept winning and losing while exhibiting pride and sportsmanship.
