The Urbana Softball program is one of the largest recreational softball programs in Frederick County. We support many communities in Southern Frederick County, specifically those that feed into Urbana High School (Urbana, Centerville, Green Valley and Kemptown Elementary Schools and Urbana Middle and Windsor Knolls Middle). Our program is for girls ages 6 through 16 and includes teams for ages 8 and Under (8U), 10 and Under (10U), 12 and Under (12U), and 15 and Under (15U). 16 Year olds who do not play on their HS Varsity Team or on a Travel Team may also play 15U.
Softball is offered in both the spring and the fall. All age levels participate with the Frederick County Girls Softball League (FCGSL) and play games across Frederick County. Our philosophy is to assist girls in developing their softball skills while providing them an opportunity to compete with players of similar abilities in a fun, engaging environment.
Urbana Softball’s objectives are to provide an organized program for the youth of the community that will:
- Teach the fundamentals of softball
- Develop self-confidence for every player
- Allow every player to have an opportunity to participate and develop in a safe and healthy environment
- Incorporate the spirit of good sportsmanship
- Develop respect for others, teamwork, pride in the team and community
- Allow everyone to have fun and enjoy the game of softball

Age Specific Information
6U - Co-ed Tee-Ball (See Baseball Registration) Girls who wish to play ball at an early age are encouraged to participate in the co-ed t-ball league. T-ball focus is on fun and learning basic skills of hitting thru coach pitch and use of the "T", base running, team involvement, catching both grounders and fly balls. Batting is continuous and an inning is over after all players have batted. The last batter on the team gets to 'run the bases' for a home run.
8U Softball Coaches will teach the basics in fielding, hitting, throwing, running bases and rules of the game. 8U is all about fun and sportsmanship while learning how to play softball with friends. Everyone succeeds at this age level with no scores being kept and no umpires. Spring 8U games are held for 12 weeks and always scheduled on Wednesday night and Saturday morning. Fall 8U games are held for 8 weeks at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
10U Softball Coaches will continue to develop skills in fielding, hitting and pitching. This is the first age level where the players will see umpires and live pitching. All athletes will have the opportunity to play a rotation of positions throughout the season. The Spring season culminates with play-offs, two brackets (Gold and Silver) of championship games and a few players will be chosen to play in an All-Star game. Fall Ball is much less competitive and is focused more on skill-development. Spring 10U games are held for 12 weeks and are always scheduled on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Fall 10U games are held for 8 weeks at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
12U Softball Coaches continue to place emphasis on skills, but game strategy comes more into play at 12U. The Spring season culminates with play-offs, two brackets of championship games and a few players will be chosen to play in an All-Star game. Spring 12U games are held for 12 weeks and are always scheduled on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Fall 12U games are held for 8 weeks at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
15/16U Softball This age group's focus is on positions and competition as a team. The Spring season culminates with play-offs, two brackets of championship games and a few players will be chosen to play in an All-Star game. 16 year olds may play 15U as long as they do not play Travel Softball or play for a high school team. Spring 15U games are held on Thursday evenings and Sundays. Fall 15U games are held for 8 weeks at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
