The Notre Dame Falcons Baseball program announced the signing of an NAIA Letter of Intent, bringing catcher Josh Bieneman to College Road in South Euclid.
Bieneman hails from Baltimore, Maryland and spent two years as the starting catcher for Baltimore City Community College. While at BCCC in the 2004 and 2005 seasons, Bieneman batted a combined .352 with eight home runs and 72 runs batted in playing in 82 games. Bieneman was 2nd-team all-region at Baltimore City.
At Baltimore's Kenwood High School, Bieneman was his team's MVP three times.
NDC Head Coach Craig Moro noted Bieneman's prowess behind the plate as a potential difference-maker for the Falcons: "Josh is a complete catcher with solid receiving skills. We're happy to have a quality defensive catcher behind the dish."
The numbers bear out Moro's assessment. At the junior college level, Bienemen threw out over 60% of would-be base stealers. Bienemen has also played his summer ball in the Valley League that is for top college talent.
