SPRING 2025 REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
REGISTRATION FOR THE MONTGOMERY BASEBALL & SOFTBALL LEAGUE 2025 SPRING SEASON IS OPEN!!
We are happy to announce that the Montgomery Baseball & Softball League (MBSL) 2025 Spring Registration system is now open! You will see that your Board has worked hard to have minimal or no annual fee increases across most divisions.
The MBSL 2025 Spring season will run from April 5th through approximately June 14th with a one-week recess during the Montgomery Township School District Spring Break (April 14th-21st). We once again plan to conduct an optional Spring Training period that will begin in late March. We are all looking forward to another great season of baseball and softball!
Register before January 15, 2025 to beat the $50.00 registration fee increase!
NEW FOR 2025! Referral Reward Program! Refer a friend who registers to play in the MBSL for the first time1 and receive a $50 VISA gift card! No limit on Referral Rewards - refer as many first-time registrants as you can!
Highlights for 2025
We will continue to offer the Concessions volunteer opt-out to parents who prefer not to serve the 6-hour volunteer commitment; the opt-out fee for Spring 2025 remains at $100 per player - no increase from last year.
I-Ball will once again utilize QuickBall concepts to build basic game skills; we also plan to continue to incorporate game scenarios and actual games into I-Ball to prepare players for the next level.
Rookies, Minors, and Majors will have activities either 2 or 3 times per week, depending on the week, which will include a mix of games and practices.
NEW FOR 2025! Majors will practice once per week on a weeknight, play one game per week on a weeknight, and also play games on some Saturdays. Majors will have a few “open dates” on Saturdays to allow for scheduling flexibility but will still be scheduled to play at least 10 games in addition to weekly practices.
We will do our best to finalize the weekly schedules for each division and communicate to teams and parents by late February.
If you have any questions about our programs or the registration process, please contact:

1 The MBSL Referral Reward Program (“Program”) is open to new, first-time registrant families only. By participating in this Program, you agree that the MBSL will make the final determination as to whether any referral has met the requirements of the Program. The MBSL reserves the right to modify or cancel the Program at any time. Gift cards will be available for pick up at Concessions on or after Opening Day.
*The MBSL is open to all children who reside in Montgomery, Rocky Hill, and Princeton. Princeton residents ages 4-12 are eligible to play in the MBSL under the Cal Ripken Charter. Princeton residents ages 13-18 are covered by the West Windsor Babe Ruth Baseball Charter and are not permitted to play in the MBSL. The MBSL Softball Program is chartered under Babe Ruth Softball.

Description |
Cougar Cubs Pre-K
|
Cougar Cubs is for players in Pre-K who will be entering Kindergarten in the upcoming Fall. Players meet once per week on Saturday morning. Cougar Cubs emphasize fun while building foundational baseball skills. MBSL instructors teach and demonstrate the basics of baseball including throwing, catching, fielding, and hitting (off a tee) in a safe, fun, fast-paced setting. Each 60-minute session includes a 30- minute "skills session" followed by a 30-minute “fun game." Cost: $175 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $275 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
Instructional Ball Kindergarten |
Instructional Ball (I-Ball) is for players in Kindergarten and young 1st graders who have never played baseball. Players meet twice per week on Saturday morning and one weeknight. Managers and coaches will evaluate the progress of I-Ball participants and incorporate game situations and competitive games as appropriate. Cost: $275 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $375 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
Rookies Baseball Grades 1-2 |
Rookies baseball is for 1st graders and 2nd graders. Rookies meet 2-3 times per week with one practice and either 1 or 2 games per week. Rookies is our first "kid pitch" division which combines kid pitch with coach pitch. Player development is emphasized throughout the program. Players will pitch (coaches will assist in the early part of the season and pitching machines may also be used). Catchers wear full equipment to learn the position but there is no stealing allowed. All batters bat each inning but only nine fielders play in the field (field positions are rotated to equalize playing time). A team may only bat through the lineup one time per inning. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, and last about 1 hour 45 minutes. Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
Minors Baseball Grades 3-4 |
Minors baseball is a full kid pitch program for 3rd and 4th graders, and young 5th graders with less baseball experience. Minors meet 2-3 times per week with one practice and either 1 or 2 games per week. Minors are more competitive than Rookies and play follows most of the rules in the standard baseball rulebook. Minors players pitch; stealing is allowed; and an inning continues until there are three outs or five runs scored by the batting team. A certified umpire is used. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, and last about 1 hour 45 minutes. Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
Majors Baseball Grades 5-6 |
Majors is our program for 5th and 6th graders, and young 7th graders. Majors meet 2-3 times per week with one practice and either 1 or 2 games per week. This division is competitive and follows the standard baseball rulebook, including leading, pickoffs, balks, and base stealing. Two certified umpires are used. Games are played on a mid-dimension field (50:70), and last about 2 hours. Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
Babe Ruth Grades 7-10 |
Babe Ruth is our baseball program for 7th through 10th graders. This age group plays on our larger dimension (60:90) field - the same size used by high schools, colleges, and the major leagues. This division uses two certified umpires and follows the entire standard baseball rulebook. Babe Ruth will likely feature 10 regular season interleague games against Rec teams from towns in Somerset and Hunterdon counties followed by exciting post-season playoffs. Games typically last 2 hours 15 minutes and are scheduled on weeknight evenings and/or Saturdays with half played “away” in neighboring towns (travel up to 40 minutes). Note: 7th graders playing 12U Travel are strongly encouraged to play Majors as opposed to Babe Ruth to maintain consistency in field size. Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
8U Softball Grades 1-3 |
The 8U (Grades 1-3) softball teams typically meet twice per week: a practice on a weeknight and a game on Saturday. Practices and games are generally held at Montgomery Veteran’s Park or McKnight Complex (Field E) with some away games in neighboring towns. Our clinic-style practices focus on fundamentals and teamwork. Player skills range from first-time participants to more experienced players. The focus is on having fun while building softball skills and team play. 8U games are played with coach pitch and players bat each inning until everyone in the lineup has batted. Games typically last about 1 hour. Cost: $225 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $325 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
10U Softball Grades 4-5 |
The 10U (Grades 4-5) softball teams typically meet twice per week: a practice on a weeknight and a game on Saturday. Practices and games are generally held at Montgomery Veteran’s Park or McKnight Complex (Field E) with some away games in neighboring towns. Our clinic-style practices focus on fundamentals, teamwork, and game strategy. Player skills vary from first-time players to more experienced players. The focus is on having fun, learning the game, reinforcing teamwork, and participating in competitive play. In 10U games, players will pitch (with limited assistance from coaches), and games typically last about 1 hour 30 minutes. Cost: $250 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $350 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
12U/14U Softball Grades 6-8 |
The 12/14U (Grades 6-8) softball teams meet twice per week: a practice on a weeknight and a game, typically scheduled on Saturdays. Practices and games are generally held at Montgomery Veteran’s Park or McKnight Complex (Field E) with some away games in neighboring towns. Our clinic-style practices focus on more advanced skills, game strategy, and teamwork while making time to hone fundamentals where needed. Player skills vary from new players to experienced players. The focus is on having fun, honing softball skills, understanding game strategy, reinforcing teamwork, and participating in competitive play. 12U games typically last about 1 hour 45 minutes. Cost: $250 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $350 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment |
