Highlights for 2025

We will continue to offer the Concessions volunteer opt-out to parents who prefer not to serve the 6-hour volunteer commitment; the opt-out fee for Spring 2025 remains at $100 per player - no increase from last year.

I-Ball will once again utilize QuickBall concepts to build basic game skills; we also plan to continue to incorporate game scenarios and actual games into I-Ball to prepare players for the next level.

Rookies, Minors, and Majors will have activities either 2 or 3 times per week, depending on the week, which will include a mix of games and practices.

NEW FOR 2025!  Majors will practice once per week on a weeknight, play one game per week on a weeknight, and also play games on some Saturdays.  Majors will have a few “open dates” on Saturdays to allow for scheduling flexibility but will still be scheduled to play at least 10 games in addition to weekly practices.

We will do our best to finalize the weekly schedules for each division and communicate to teams and parents by late February.

Instructional Ball

Kindergarten

Instructional Ball (I-Ball) is for players in Kindergarten and young 1st  graders who have never played baseball. Players meet twice per week on Saturday morning and one weeknight. Managers and coaches will evaluate the progress of I-Ball participants and incorporate game situations and competitive games as appropriate.

Cost: $275 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $375 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment
Birthdates: 5/1/2018-9/30/2019

Rookies Baseball

Grades 1-2

Rookies baseball is for 1st graders and 2nd graders. Rookies meet 2-3 times per week with one practice and either 1 or 2 games per week. Rookies is our first "kid pitch" division which combines kid pitch with coach pitch. Player development is emphasized throughout the program. Players will pitch (coaches will assist in the early part of the season and pitching machines may also be used). Catchers wear full equipment to learn the position but there is no stealing allowed. All batters bat each inning but only nine fielders play in the field (field positions are rotated to equalize playing time). A team may only bat through the lineup one time per inning. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, and last about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment
Birthdates: 5/1/2016-9/30/2017

Grades 3-4

Minors baseball is a full kid pitch program for 3rd and 4th graders, and young 5th graders with less baseball experience. Minors meet 2-3 times per week with one practice and either 1 or 2 games per week. Minors are more competitive than Rookies and play follows most of the rules in the standard baseball rulebook. Minors players pitch; stealing is allowed; and an inning continues until there are three outs or five runs scored by the batting team. A certified umpire is used. Games are played on a smaller-dimension (46:60) field, and last about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment

Two certified umpires are used. Games are played on a mid-dimension field (50:70), and last about 2 hours.

Cost: $300 with 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment at the Concession Stand OR $400 with “Opt-Out” from 6-Hour Volunteer Commitment
Birthdates: 5/1/2012-9/30/2014

Babe Ruth

Grades 7-10

Babe Ruth is our baseball program for 7th through 10th graders. This age group plays on our larger dimension (60:90) field - the same size used by high schools, colleges, and the major leagues. This division uses two certified umpires and follows the entire standard baseball rulebook. Babe Ruth will likely feature 10 regular season interleague games against Rec teams from towns in Somerset and Hunterdon counties followed by exciting post-season playoffs. Games typically last 2 hours 15 minutes and are scheduled on weeknight evenings and/or Saturdays with half played “away” in neighboring towns (travel up to 40 minutes).

Note: 7th graders playing 12U Travel are strongly encouraged to play Majors as opposed to Babe Ruth to maintain consistency in field size.

2024/2025 MBSL BOARD ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON OCTOBER 29TH!!

YOUR MBSL COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU!!! BE A COUGAR.....VOLUNTEER TO SERVE ON YOUR MBSL BOARD!

Board Application is HERE!

It's that exciting time of year again...kids are back in school, leaves are changing colors, and we are doing our best to make baseball and softball last until those late October morning frosts start to glisten.  Even more exciting is the opportunity to serve the youth in our community by volunteering for the MBSL Board!  Our league cannot run without dedicated volunteers from the community who are willing to commit their time to supporting our baseball and softball programs in Montgomery.

If you and your children love being involved with baseball and/or softball and want to see these sports continue to flourish in Montgomery then please consider volunteering some of your time by joining our Board.  Prior baseball or softball experience is NOT required; all you need is motivation, a desire to be involved with our community, and fresh ideas to support an enjoyable and learning environment for our players.  Your time and effort are required but the smiles on the faces of our kids having fun at the fields makes it all worthwhile!

Historically, the entire MBSL Board has been elected annually (with terms running from November through October).  The MBSL Bylaws were modified last year to allow for greater stability within positions on the Board and to ensure that the Board retains experienced members across years.  We now have two classes (or groups) of Board members that will serve for staggered, two-year terms.

For 2024, our transition year, all MBSL Board position are up for election.  Going forward, Class 1 Directors will be elected in odd years and Class 2 Directors will be elected in even years.  For example, Class 1 Directors elected in 2024 will run again in 2025 (odd year) but Class 2 Directors elected in 2024 won't run again until 2026 (even year).  This every-other-year cycle will then repeat going forward.  So, after we kick off this initial year, Class 1 Directors will run in 2025, 2027, 2029, etc. and Class 2 Directors will run in 2026, 2028, 2030, etc.

Class 1 Directors:  President, VP of Umpires & Scheduling, VP of Rec Softball, VP of Travel, VP of Administration, and VP of Special Events.

Class 2 Directors:  VP of Finance, VP of Tournaments, VP of Communications, VP of Rec Baseball, VP of Registration, VP of Sponsorships & Fundraising, and VP of Fields & Maintenance.
