Morristown Naturals

When watching the Morris Majors summer league, you can hear the crack of the wooden bat, laughing and chatter between players on opposing teams, cheering after a big hit, and shouts of frustration after a bad at-bat. It is this mixture of a relaxing, yet competitive, atmosphere that has attracted many former and current college baseball players to the league.
This storied league, which has been around for more than 50 years, had been missing something over the past decade -- a team from the county seat, Morristown. Sam Pagano solved this problem by forming the Naturals, a Morristown-area team which includes former high school players from Morristown High School, Morris Plains, Morris Catholic, Madison, Delbarton and others. Many of the players on the team play college baseball. "There are also many who could play at that level but chose another path in school but still love baseball and want to play," Pagano said.
The main pull for the playing for the Naturals has simply been the chance to play baseball with old friends and make new baseball friends. The high level of competition in the Morris Majors also lured these players to the league. Players for the Naturals have gone on to play for the Newark Bears, New Jersey Jackals, in the Cape Cod League, and with other affiliated teams all over the country and two former players are now playing in the MLB minor leagues.
Over the last Six seasons the Naturals have been in the playoffs every season losing in the finals in 2010 and winning the championship in 2011. The current team has players from Drew University, TCNY, St. Peters, Bryant University, Montclair University, and Pace University as well as graduates from Bucknell College, Monmouth University, and NJIT.
