Jimmy Merling, who this week became PHS's all-time hits leader, also surpassed PHS career records for plate appearances and at bats this week. He became just the second player in school history to record over 300 career plate appearances and has surpassed Tyler Pionk's previous record of 301, set in 2011. Merling has 314 through Friday's game at Hibbing. He also surpassed Ian Scherber's record of 247 career at bats, set in 2012. Merling has 257 career a bats through Friday.

Merling also recently became the first player in Proctor history to record 100 career runs scored. He has 105 through Friday. Already the school's record-holder before the season started, he needs 118 to reach the top 10 in the state records. The state record for career runs scored is 172 by Adam Diekmann of Adrian, set in 2010. Proctor's previous record of 70 was set by Tyler Pionk in 2011. Jesse Scanlon, a 2012 graduate, finished his career with 73.

Merling also recently surpassed 60 career stolen bases. He's been the PHS leader in career steals since his sophomore season. The previous record was 28 set by Dan Norton and Nik Peterson, both 1981 graduates. Merling has 63 career stolen bases through Friday. He needs 76 to be listed among the top 10 in the state. The state record is 97 (and counting) by Peter Zasmeta of Aitkin, set in 2013.
