9u Brawlers win Spring Swing Championship

The GC Brawlers organization would like to thank everyone who participated in and helped out with the tournament.  It was a huge success.  There were 24 different teams from all over NJ including 1 from Delaware.  There were 8 teams in each bracket and 3 different age brackets (8u, 9u, & 11u).  In the 11u bracket, the GC Brawlers were the host to Muckdogs, Middletown Titans, Seneca Eagles, WJ Team Velocity, Mullica Mayhem, SJ Hornets, and the 11u Champ WJ Wildcats.  The 9u Champion and host GC Brawlers welcomed the Marlton Nationals, Sewell Raildogs, Mullica Mayhem, Millville Lightning, Glendora Thunder, Cinnaminson Pirates, and Stafford Sharks.  And the 8u GC Brawlers hosted the WD Eagles, Bellmawr, WTwp Red, SJ Bulls, SJ Knights, SJ Sandsharks, and the 8u Champ SJ Warriors.

The 9u squad opened up with a 15-3 win over the Sewell Raildogs.  Jacob Zearfoss pitched 3 innings allowing 3 runs, and helped himself at the plate with a lead off Homerun in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Kaleb Wright pitched a scoreless 4th inning for the Brawlers.  Leo Curran had a big day in game 1 going 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored.  In the semifinals, the GC Brawlers hosted the Marlton Nationals and jumped on them early and often.  The Brawlers scored 13 runs in the first inning enroute to a 25-7 victory.  Jameson Gorman pitched 1 shutout inning, and John Daily allowed just 2 runs over the next 2 innings.  Aydan Hagan, Jacob Zearfoss, Steven Burkhardt and Jason Baker each added 2 hits as the Brawlers moved on to the Championship game.  The Brawlers would face the Millville Lightning who beat the Mullica Mayhem 11-2 in Gm 1, and the Cinnaminson Pirates 12-0 in the semifinals.  The Millville Lightning struck first with 2 runs in the top of the first inning, but Gloucester came right back with 9 runs in the bottom of the inning.  After both teams traded goose eggs in the 2nd, the Brawlers added 3 more runs in the 3rd to lead 12-2 after 3 innings.  The Lightning would not quit as they pounded out hit after hit in the 4th sparking a 5 run rally and cutting the lead in half.  The damage could've been worse, but Jameson Gorman caught a humpback liner at Shortstop to end the inning.  The Brawlers would add a much needed insurance run after Jason Baker was hit by a pitch and came around to score in the bottom of the 5th inning giving them a 13-7 lead heading into the sixth.  After a leadoff hit, Hagan struck out the next 2 batters and then Chucky Beswick would catch a fly ball hit to left field, and that would end the ball game.  Aydan Hagan received Game MVP with 9 strikeouts through 6 innings in the win.  Aiden Leger and Steven Burkhardt both had big hits in the 1st inning knocking in 2 RBIs each.
