New Football Coach Marty Eyes Success

His Goal Is for ELAC to Become Premier Program in California

MONTEREY PARK, CA – Brimming with confidence and an infectious energy, new East Los Angeles College football Coach Eric Marty is determined to build the Huskies’ program into one of the best in the state.

“I believe that East Los Angeles College with its location and resources can have a tremendous impact on its players, the community, and become one of top football programs in California,” Marty said.

The 29-year-old Marty comes to ELAC after serving as assistant coach and offensive coordinator last season at Moorpark College in Ventura County. He coached receivers and was special teams’ coordinator at Oklahoma Panhandle State University for two seasons prior to that.

Marty also coached professionally in Europe for two seasons, coordinating the offenses of two separate Italian Football League teams. Both of his offenses finished in the top two in nearly every statistical category.

The former high school and college star quarterback is prepared and ready to apply the knowledge and the schemes and strategies he employed previously that made him a successful player and assistant coach into his new role as head coach of the Huskies.

“It is my vision and desire to build a program so organized, so efficient, and so purpose driven that it is able to radically transform the lives of its players,” Marty said. “And I believe that if a program can demand accountability (academically as athletes, and as men of character) that this type of transformation in its players is inevitable and that there will be a windfall of success on the field and in the classroom.”

He believes that the goal can be accomplished through recruiting, player development and academic progress, the game’s X’s and O’s, and maintaining ELAC’s success transferring players to four-year universities.

“Our vision will be realized by concentrating our focus, energy, and resources on those four core areas,” Marty said.

Before Marty’s arrival, Moorpark was a dismal 3-17 over two seasons. He not only helped rejuvenate the offense, but also the entire program, which improved enough to go 5-5 in his first season in 2013 and in 2014 his offense finished 14th in the state in total offense.

As a player, the Washington state native was a three-year starting quarterback at Chapman University in Orange and broke six school passing records. He helped lead the Panthers to a 14-8 record as a starter, and consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1995-96.

Marty went on to play professionally in Europe, playing for four different European teams in two different leagues in Italy and Austria from 2009-2012. He helped lead the teams to four first place finishes, four championship games and two championships.

He is a graduate of Meadowdale High School in the Seattle suburb of Lynnwood, where he not only played quarterback, but also returned there to serve as an assistant coach.

A versatile athlete, Marty was also a star soccer player. He was the captain of Meadowdale’s 2004 State 3-A championship team his senior year. For his outstanding contribution, theSeattle Times named him the Washington State 3-A Soccer “Player of the Year.”
