Cody Pride 10U Girls completed their last regular season tournament of the year at the Razor City Invite in Gillette this past weekend. The girls fast pitch softball team will now prepare for the Wyoming State American Softball Association (ASA) Junior Olympic (JO) tournament which will be held in Caper on July 10-12, 2015.
The Gillette tournament was the third regular season tournament for the young travelling team of 8, 9, and 10 year olds after competing in the Riding the Rails tournament in Laurel on May 30-31st and the Bozeman Blast tournament in Bozeman on June 12-14th. The tournament games for the 10U division in Gillette were played at the newly completed Energy Capital Softball Complex (aka Field of Dreams) which is an impressive 320 acre facility featuring multiple baseball and softball fields. Teams from Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, and Nebraska gathered for the grand opening of the facility which coincided with the annual Razor City Invite event.
Cody Pride 10U opened pool play on Saturday at 9:30 AM against the Rapid City Storm. The game was close throughout with the Storm pulling away late 18 to 13 to seal the victory. The 2nd game of the day on Saturday for Pride 10U was at 11:00 AM against the Blue Jays from Gillette. Costly mistakes proved to be the difference as Pride fell to Gillette 12 to 2. The stifling heat also proved to be challenging with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 90s by mid-day. In the third and final game of the day, Pride 10U lost to the Billings Bombers 12 to 4. Although Pride 10U was not able to record any wins on Saturday, they faced some very stiff competition which will serve them well as they look towards the Wyoming State tournament just two short weeks away.
On Sunday, in bracket play, Pride 10U came up just short and ran out of time as they battled back and lost a close game to the Crushers from Rapid City 9 to 6. Riley Simone led Pride from the mound against the Crushers striking out several Rapid City batters.
Pride 10U is hoping to follow up on last year’s State tournament success after coming from behind and surprising everyone to win the 10U Recreation Division. In last year’s tournament, the girls had to battle back from the losers bracket while defeating Green River twice and Douglas twice to claim the title.
Cody Pride 10U players include Katie Brasher, Jayci Ervin, Morgan Evans, Abby Klessens, Ava Meier, Tristan Molaskey, Laura Phillips, Hudson Selk, Riley Simone, Jayma Tuttle, Ellie Ungrund, and Ecylia Wright. The team is managed by head coach Ron Brasher and assistant coaches Keith Ungrund, James Evans, Ed Molaskey, Brianne Brasher, and Armond Simone.
