GREGSON — Tyge Yelenich is a Divisional champion.

The Butte Central sophomore golfer shot an 80 at the Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Course Saturday. Yelenich then beat Josh Heath of Hamilton in the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to capture the title at the Western A Divisional tournament.

The tournament featured teams from the Southwestern A and Northwestern A conferences.

Butte Central’s Tricia Joyce placed second on the girls side, continuing her impressive freshman campaign.

Coral Schulz of Whitefish won the tournament with a 77. Joyce shot 86, while Whitefish’s Katie Fyall placed third at 88.

Just 26 golfers finished on the girls’ side, so all individuals will advance to next week’s Class A State tournament in Sydney.

Whitefish won the girls’ title at 372. Frenchtown placed second at 429, followed by Dillon at 466 and Hamilton at 482.

Whitefish won the boys’ title with a 346. Hamilton placed second at 347, while Polson took third at 352 and Columbia Falls placed fourth at 382.

Butte Central placed fifth at 384. The top four teams and top 30 individuals advance to State.

Four Butte Central boys qualified to play next week. Tyler Kump, who is moonlighting as the place kicker for the Butte Central football team, shot a 97. Sam Joyce carded a 103, while Bryan Arnold hit 104.

Yelenich, Kump, Joyce and Arnold are elegible to play next week. Cameron Johnson of BC shot a 117, missing the cut.
