SIDNEY — Coral Schulz and the Whitefish girls are first-day leaders at the Class A state golf tournament at the Sidney Country Club.
Schulz, a senior at Whitefish and the defending state champion, carded a 76 on Friday for a six-shot advantage on Tricia Joyce of Butte Central.
Katie Fyall of Whitefish opened with an 86, which is good for third place.Also for Whitefish, Hayley Hileman, 94, is tied for 13th and Holly Hileman, 97, is tied for 15th.
The Whitefish girls posted a team score of 353. The Bulldogs lead second-place Sidney by 24 shots heading into today’s final round
Liam Clancy of Billings Central tops the boys field after Friday’s session with a 75. He has a two-shot advantage on Tyrell Walter of Lewistown.
Polson’s Carson McDaniel is in a three-way tie for fifth place with a 79 score. Whitefish’s Cole Turgeon, 82, is tied for 11th.
Billings Central leads the team standings with a 315 score. Hamilton, 333, is second.
