Gib Mason Sportsmanship Award

The Catonsville C-Hawks Gib Mason Annual Sportsmanship Award is the program's highest honor. The award is presented annually at the end of the Catonsville C-Hawks Travel Basketball Programs Post Season Tournament. The award is named after long time Catonsville Rec and Parks volunteer Gib Mason, who for years worked with small groups teaching basketball and its associated positive life lessons.

The award is presented each year to three individuals who have exemplified the lessons taught by Gib Mason and set forth by the Positive Coaching Alliance. These lessons are based on understanding, following, and respecting the ROOTS of the great game of basketball.

Respect for the RULES, OFFICIALS, OPPONENTS, TEAMMATES and SELF

This years first recipient is Bo Fowler of the Severna Park Green Hornets. Bo led his team to a regular season championship and the post season finals. A talented player and strong competitor, Bo played hard, played smart and always set the right example as a young gentleman for his teammates win or lose.

Our second recipient is Maddie Nimmo of Emmorton. Maddie is one of the first females to participate in the C-Hawk League and our first female award winner. Maddie faced all the hurdles associated with playing with the boys in the rough and tumble 14U division and met every challenge with a smile on her face and a can do attitude. A talented competitor, Maddie set a positive example all year long for everyone who got to watch her play.

Our third recipient is Eddie Lee of the 14U Catonsville C-Hawks. This year's 14U C-Hawk team struggled all season long, going win less in the regular and the post season tournament. Despite being physically over-matched, Eddie the teams tallest player, approached each and every game enthusiastically. He played hard, always offering words of encouragement, which garnered the respect of his teammates and opponents alike.
