RULES

 

Rules

                        1.1-  The objective of each team is to win by scoring more runs than the opponent. And have fun! 

                        1.2-  The winner of the game shall be that team which shall have scored, in accordance with these rules, the greater number of runs at the conclusion of a regulation game. (7 Innings @ Mick Fenway or Patriot Field)

 

                        1.3-  The Ball shall be an official Wiffleball.

 

                        1.4-  The Bat shall be an official yellow bat un altered in size and weight (taping is allowed for design purposes). If you tape a bat it must be available for all players to use.

                         

                        1.5 - Overall team/player satisfaction is the goal. If the 2 teams agree on a call or decision and everyone feels it is right, just, and fair then ultimately that is the right call even if in some cases it may go against the official.

 1.6 - The Ball is always a live ball because of the nature of chickadees. If the ball tags the base on a force play or a runner even if he is on the base he is out. (for right or wrong)

                        1a.1- Teams are required to have 6-8 people on their roster at beginning of season.

 

1b.1 In order to play teams must have 4 people, 3 players must be officially on the roster 1 temporary substitute player will be allowed to fill the field. If teams are unable to get 4 people the game will be a forfeit.

 

1 c. WHAT ABOUT MY HANDS:

            If it hits you in hands at bat not swinging it is a ball

            If it hits you in hands at bat swinging it is a strike and foul/dead ball even if it goes into play. 

 

 

 

                     2. Key Terms

 

2.2- THE LEAGUE PRESIDENT is MICK and he is the league official charged with enforcing these Rules, fining or suspending any player, manager, coach or umpire for violation of these Rules, resolving any disputes involving these Rules or determining any protested games.

 

2.3- Where is mick? Should Mick not be around Bill Whitmarsh is in charge.
2.3- 
Leading Off  is the act of stepping off the base you are on prior to the pitcher throwing the ball and it crossing the plate. IT IS NOT ALLOWED in the MICK FENWAY WIFFLEBALL LEAGUE

 

3. The Batter

 

                        3.1-  BATTING OUT OF TURN.
        (a) A batter shall be called out, on appeal, when he fails to bat in his proper turn, and another batter completes a time at bat in his place.

 

3.2-  A BATTER IS OUT WHEN --
        (a) His fair or foul fly ball (other than a foul tip) is legally caught by a fielder

 

      (b) A third strike is hit back into the strike zone.

 

      (c) Bunts foul on third strike.
      (f) He attempts to hit a third strike and the ball touches him;
      (g) His fair ball touches him before touching a fielder;
      (h) After hitting or bunting a fair ball, his bat hits the ball a second time in fair territory. The ball is dead and no runners may advance. If the batter-runner drops his bat and the ball rolls against the bat in fair territory and, in the umpire’s judgment, there was no intention to interfere with the course of the ball, the ball is alive and in play;

 

       (i) After hitting or bunting a foul ball, he intentionally deflects the course of the ball in any manner while running to first base. The ball is dead and no runners may advance;
       (j) After a third strike or after he hits a fair ball, he or first base is tagged before; or the pitcher or any member of the opposing team has control of the ball inside the pitcher’s circle prior to the batter making it to 1st base

 

 

 

                        4.1-  No pitcher shall pitch more then 3 innings or 9 outs, outs are used when pitchers are replaced in the middle of innings.

 

4.2-  The pitching format is Starter, Bullpen, Closer (Once you pitch you are ineligible to pitch again)

 

                        4.3-  Pitchers should not throw the ball with excessive force and/or speed, with the intension of striking a player on purpose or with ill intention, the determination of excessive is made by the official for that game. A pitcher will be warned only twice if this action occurs, if a third warning is issued the pitcher will be ineligible to pitch the rest of the game.

 

                        4.4-  Batters hit in the head by a pitch will get an intentional walk

 

                       

 4.4 (a) A Batter may switch sides during an at bat, but not after a pitcher is set ready to pitch

                       5. The Umpire

 

                        5.1- 

 

(a) Any umpire’s decision which involves judgment, such as, but not limited to, whether a batted ball is fair or foul, whether a pitch is a strike or a ball, or whether a runner is safe or out, is final. No player, manager, coach or substitute shall object to any such judgment decisions.
(c) If a decision is appealed, the umpire making the decision may ask another umpire for information before making a final decision. No umpire shall criticize, seek to reverse or interfere with another umpire’s decision unless asked to do so by the umpire making it.

 

 

 

6.  The Field; Mick Fenway

 

                        6.1 –  Fair Balls and rulings

 

                                  (a) If the ball hits any part of the front roof it is a double, the gutter is considered part of the roof.

 

                                  (b) The back part of the roof is in play, should the ball roll over the roof and into home run territory it is a double.

 

                                  (c)  Home run territory is over the house, cars (top of car is a home run), shed (back roof of shed is Home run) and fence.  Should the ball hit the top of the fence and go over it is a home run. Should the ball hit the tree in Right field and go over the fence it is a Home Run.

 

                        6.2-  The Tree – (a) is in play, should the ball hit it, the play becomes live and the opposing team can not catch the ball in the air for an out.

jdsfkljasd          ***note: Should the balls trajectory go unchanged through the tree or graze the tree it can be caught for an out.

 

**                  (b) Depending on where the ball initially makes contact with the tree will determine whether or not it is fair or foul, the umpire will be the sole person in charge of the call.  (i.e., if the ball makes initial contact with the tree in fair territory but lands in foul territory the ball is fair, if the ball now in foul territory can’t be recovered within reason the runner will only be given a single

 

                         6.3-  The ball is live at all times and if at any time the ball hits a runner during play not safe on a base, the runner is out

 

                        6.4- If a ball goes into the orange highlighted area near the tiki bar it is ruled a double.

 

                        6.5-  Balls hit into outfield trees are in play, if a ball ends up tangled in trees runners may be called back at the umpires discretion.

 

                        6.6- “Bunt Line” The line in front of home plate is considered the bunt line because we don’t have a catcher. The ball must be on or cross the line to be a fair ball, otherwise it is considered foul.

 

7. The Field; Patriot Field

 

                        7.1- Fair and Foul lines are self explanatory.

                        7.3- “Pesky Tree

 

(a)If the ball knicks the tree and the trajectory of the ball is deemed un-altered and a catchable ball by the official on duty the ball can be caught for an out.

 

(b) If the ball hits the tree and its trajectory and direction changes it becomes an in play ball and can not be caught for an out and base runners can not be tagged up. An umpire is required to yell fair ball if this happens.

 

7.4-  For the safety of players and spectators catching balls out side of the field and over fences is not allowed and will not be called an out.
