You Are Invited To Tryout For The East Cobb “Academic” Patriots
The best academic baseball program in America
The East Cobb Patriots Tryouts for fall and next summer will be Aug. 10 at Cherokee High School in Canton GA from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM and every weekend during Sept. and Oct. while we are playing our fall schedule. If you want to tryout, either email me (Jim Lovejoy) at ecpats011@aol.com or call me at 770-633-1243.
Our program is tailored for the purpose of assisting high-level student athletes in their goal of going to college baseball. If you look in the stands during Perfect Game, LakePoint-PBR and other events, you will often see coaches from the very best colleges and universities in the country watching the Patriots play because we have a reputation for having high-caliber players with great grades.
EC Patriots alumni include over 300 former junior and senior Patriots who have gone on to play baseball at schools like Princeton, UGA, GA Tech, FSU, Penn State, Davidson, Furman, Mercer, Samford, Mississippi State, Washington and Lee, MIT, Sewanee, Emory, Yale, South Carolina, Navy, Johns Hopkins, Duke and many more colleges throughout the country. You will find Patriots Alumni playing in the Cape Cod Collegiate League, the Futures Game, the minor leagues, and even Major League Baseball. 20 college Patriots have been drafted in the Major League Draft, including two 1st round picks Chad Jenkins (Toronto) and James Ramsey (St. Louis). Four Patriots have made it to the Major Leagues: Jenkins, David Hale, Nathaniel Lowe and Cade Marlowe.
What Former Patriots Have To Say
Yale’s Tyler Sapsford, first Patriot from Japan. “Playing for the East Cobb Patriots didn’t just gain me the exposure I needed to get recruited. Working with you, the other coaches, and playing with teammates from all across America was an invaluable life experience that expanded my baseball insight, and more importantly, expanded my cultural horizons.”
Florida State’s Captain James Ramsey, first round draft pick of St. Louis Cardinals, ACC Player of the Year, Two-time Academic All American, Georgia Tech Recruiting Coordinator and top assistant. "In two seasons with the Patriots, I greatly matured as a player on and off the field. With the assistance of Jim Lovejoy and the professional coaching staff, I was able to gain a better understanding of the college recruiting and pro scouting process. The Patriots emphasize working equally as hard in the classroom as on the field, which leads to a positive image for college recruiters. I have the Patriots to thank for helping me transition from an elite high school player to a successful college student athlete."
Davidson Freshman All-America and Team Captain Andrew Barna, “I always knew that East Cobb Patriots baseball stood for high character and a strong commitment to academics. This is why there was no better choice for Atlanta area summer ball than the Patriots. Most of all, my summer with the Patriots got me ready for my freshman fall which was the most important period of development in the start of my Davidson career.”
Princeton RHP, CF and Braves RHP David Hale, "Being a Patriot was a positive stress-free experience that allowed me to relax and play baseball the way I had since I was a kid."
Emory Gold Glove winning Catcher Jared Welch, "If you're looking to play baseball at a prominent academic college, the East Cobb Patriots is the team to play for. No other team will get you the exposure you need to the schools you want."
Wofford SS Derek Hirsch, “As a student athlete without a high school baseball team, Coach Lovejoy and his professional coaching staff guided me through the recruiting process, facilitated every opportunity to play in front of college coaches, and helped my dream of playing Division 1 baseball come true.”
Yale RHP and Captain Chris Moates, “Playing for the East Cobb Patriots was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Without Coach Lovejoy and the Patriots, there is very little chance that I would be going to Yale University to play ball.”
MIT 1B Phil Reiser, “The Patriots' coaches, as well as Jim Lovejoy, guided me in the right direction toward the schools that were the best fit for me. Had I not joined the Patriots, I would not be going to MIT.”
United States Naval Academy 1B David Norman, “Thanks to the East Cobb Patriots for giving me the chance and opportunity to play for them and helped me get the exposure I needed to sign with Navy. Thank you for putting such quality people around me. But most of all, thank you for believing in me.... Jim, we did it. I might have hit the ball, but you saw the vision. You never gave up on me. And look where we are now. God Bless.”
Duke LHP Chris McGrath, "The East Cobb Patriots provided me with the coaching and exposure I needed to play at the next level. The high standards academically and athletically helped me maximize my potential on the field and in the classroom."
Georgetown and San Francisco minor league RHP Nick Morreale, “I owe every bit of my success with college recruiting and college exposure to Jim Lovejoy and the East Cobb Patriots. With Jim and the Pats, I was able to get an accurate idea for exactly what kinds of players college coaches look for, understand the importance of excelling in the classroom, and work hard towards goals that Jim helped and motivated me to achieve. There is no other program in the country that focuses this much on being a stellar student as well as being a stellar athlete. That is what sets the Pats apart.” Nick is from Minnesota.
The Patriot Way
Grade Standard: We are the only travel organization that has a grade point standard which is 3.0 or higher in core courses or on schedule for Hope (Georgia players). Our average team core or Hope GPA is about 3.5 and our average SAT score is above 1,200.
Our Schedules: Our travel teams play in the top scouted PBR tournaments at LakePoint and Perfect Game tournaments at East Cobb Complex as well as tournaments at or near the top Academic Schools in the country. We also scrimmage at several of the nation’s best schools.
Our Coaches: Our coaches are experienced professional coaches who are paid to teach your son and assist him to go on to college baseball. No coach has a son on the team.
Our fall and summer teams
We plan to play one or two teams of 2025-2027 graduates in the fall. Our fall teams play on weekends in September, October, and possibly early November.
In 2025, we plan to field summer teams organized by recruiting or graduation year of 2026 and 2027 graduates. You must be judged by me to be a potential college player of good character and a good-to-outstanding student (qualifying for Hope, core 3.0 GPA, or better) to play.
Our players come from throughout the US, including Puerto Rico and Hawaii, and Asia.
Note: The East Cobb Patriots no longer affiliates with East Cobb Baseball and run their program independently.
