Auburn Elite Alum Maya J. Transfers to D1 Southeastern Louisiana University Lions!

Auburn Elite alumna Maya J. has transferred to the division 1 Southeastern Louisiana University Lions! Maya originally signed with division 1 Portland State University during the early signing period of her high school career.  Due to some changes in staff and funding by PSU of the sprint program, Maya decided to find a new home to finish her collegiate track career.

Having been heavily recruited out of high school from colleges across the country, Maya was well known to coaches.  She initially was negotiating a move to California when she decided to give colleges in the south a second look. She contacted coaches at Central Arkansas University and Southeastern Louisiana University. Both coaches jumped at the second chance to recruit Maya and they provided very strong scholarship offers. Maya ultimately chose the program which would best suit her track career goals and provide the individualized training she had been looking for.

"I recruited her out of high school pretty heavily" said SLU head track coach Corey Mistretta.  "She chose a different route initially but I'm glad to finally get her here."

Maya, a biology major, is also a stellar student.  She was in PSU's Honors College and named All-Academic Big Sky in 2017.  Maya will also enter the Honors Program at SLU and complete her biology degree.  Maya, who is currently working as an intern with the City of Portland's Metropolitan Public Defender's office, intends to attend law school after graduation.

Best of luck to Maya!
