Practices will be Tuesday/Thursday unless CSPS cancels. They will practice from 6-8pm. Any questions, please talk to the coaches.

Any outstanding fees need to be paid before the first tournament. Please make sure a copy of the birth certificate is on file. Any questions, please talk to the coaches or board.

If you or your child have a problem, please do not hesitate to speak to a board member or coach. We strive for a zero drama club. We are all volunteers doing our best for every child.

You can contact us through the web: http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=cedarspringswrestling or https://www.facebook.com/CSYWC/ or directly by calling Coach Scott Marsman at 616-690-1986.

Water bottles are a must. Please make sure your child has enough to stay hydrated for the full practice. There are drinking fountains, but they are not accessible during practice.

Cleanliness is very important. All street shoes must be left in the hallway. That also means parents/siblings watching must adhere to this policy. Bring extra socks or slippers for yourself if you expect to be in the wrestling room. Yes, it will be messy in the hall when winter hits. Suck it up.

Please make sure kids are wearing clean workout gear to practice and wrestling shoes are only worn on the mat. Do not allow your child to wear their wrestling shoes to the bathroom. Buy them a pair of slides to put on over their wrestling shoes if they are too little to take them off. Coaches and admins may not carry your child to the bathroom. Make sure they shower thoroughly as soon as possible after practice/tournaments.

If your child is going to compete, wrestling shoes & head gear are mandatory. Kids with braces must have a mouth guard.  Any child with long hair must wear a hairnet. Look up NFHS guidelines if you have a question. Singlets are available from many sites but are not mandatory. A compression shirt or tshirt and shorts are acceptable. Girls who choose to wear a singlet must also wear a tight fitting sports tank/undershirt beneath their singlet. Just a sports bra does not comply with the uniform standards.

When weighing in, a singlet or tshirt and athletic shorts must be worn. There will be a skin check before stepping on the scale. Make sure fingernails are nicely clipped.

During practice and at tournaments parents are not allowed on the mat. Please, let the coaches coach. There are multiple ways to run moves. The coaches are using the techniques that the middle and high schools run.

In order to compete in the Regional and State tournaments, Youth and Middle School wrestlers must compete at 2 tournaments.

Tournaments are posted on the myway website. We are the West Region. We always talk about the upcoming tournament at practice. Sign up sheets are on the table starting the Tuesday before. Sign ups end at 9pm on Thursday before the tournament. There will also be a reminder on the club website. If you can't make it to practice but want to compete, send a facebook or text message to Jacquie Troupe. 616-458-6858.

We have a family style potluck at every tournament. There will be a food sign up next to the tournament sign up every week. Even if you don't contribute food, please feel free to eat! There is always plenty!

Most Tournaments will cost $10 at weigh in. Some are more-MCC, Grand Valley and Davenport for instance. If you sign up your child for a tournament and do not compete, you will be charged $5. You are responsible for the fee even if you don't weigh in. If you weigh in and don't make it to the tournament you will be charged $10.

Weigh In sites are listed: https://www.mywaywrestling.com/page/show/2200920-west-region-

Most of us use Northview.

Most tournaments are divided into Open & Novice. First and second year wrestlers are considered Novices. More than 2 years and you are considered Open. There are some exceptions and they are determined by the coaches and officials. Tournament age is determined by child's age as of 12/31/2018.

Brackets are posted on http://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/Login.jsp by Saturday evening. All matches will be held on 1/2 mats. Charts will also be posted at every tournament. Mat number and bout numbers will be listed. Combined weight groups are determined by the head pairer. If there is no one in your child's weight class, coaches can request that they bump up a weight. Your child will compete on the same mat for the whole tournament. If something changes, it will be announced.

If a wrestler places at MYWAY Regionals but opts out of MYWAY State to go to another tournament, they will be banned from MYWAY for the next season.

This is a very long season. Please pay attention to your wrestler. We cannot stress this enough. If you're tired, take the week off. Don't burn out. Take a break when you need it. Especially if you have young wrestlers or this is your first year of wrestling.

This sport can be exhausting, exciting, infuriating, addicting & expensive. There is no other sport quite like wrestling that will teach your child very quickly that what they put into training directly affects their results on the mat. Every week they train, you will see so much growth in your child. You will see also see growth in yourself. Ask any of the kids who have done this for a while why they come back. Talk to parents who have been involved about why they encourage their child to stay in this sport. Ask the ones who still volunteer even though their kids are grown. You get to know people from all over. You get to know the competition and their parents. By the end of the season, you're rooting just as hard for the competition as you are for your own child. It breeds fierce competitors on the mat but the best of friends off it.
