BrewCrew Advance to Second Round of Winners Bracket

The Baltimore BrewCrew started their return tour to the York Labor Day Tournament with Dustin Pease on the mound. Pease was yet to make a start for the BrewCrew this season, but had not allowed a run over seven starts with Brunswick and Frederick. He allowed the first run of his season and of the BrewCrew's tournament in the fourth. The setback was minor, as Zach Nadolny and Justing Anderson's back to back hits to start the fourth inning resulted in two runs.

The 'Crew was able to tack on one more run and win the game 3-1 behind Dustin Pease's complete game. Next up for the BrewCrew is rival Susquehanna Assault.

BrewCrew Punch Assault's Ticket to Loser's Bracket

The Baltimore BrewCrew's fiercest rival over the last five years has been the Susquehanna Assault. They are the only team that the BrewCrew has played more than five times over those five years that has a winning record. And the Assault's success has not been minimal, defeating the BrewCrew in over 80% of games played, albeit most of them within two runs. And today, the BrewCrew sent ace Steve Cooke to the mound, who has a career record of 0-12 against the Assault.

The Assault were able to score two runsthrough the first couple innings to take a 2-0 lead into bottom second. Hits by Ryan Welling, Matt Gabrielski, and Ryan McMillian in the second tied the game. The BrewCrew took the lead on a double by Scott Merkel and a single by Kevin Kopas. In the sixth, the BrewCrew extended the lead to 6-2 with hits by Zach Nadolny, Justin Anderson and Ryan Welling. The Assault scored three meaningless runs on a three run homer and the game ended at 6-5.

Every player contributed offensively to capture the victory. This also allowed Steve Cooke to capture his first victory and put the BrewCrew in position to win the York Labor Day Tournament. Next up is the Cecil County Braves with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.

Anderson's Three Run Double Elevates Cooke and 'Crew to Win

After defeating the Assault the day before, Steve Cooke takes the mound to try to push the BrewCrew into the semis. The BrewCrew jumped on top with hits by Zach Nadolny, Ryan Welling and Matt Gabrielski. The Braves jumped back with five runs between 3rd and 4th to take 5-3 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Justin Anderson got his biggest hit of his young BrewCrew career with a three run double to take the lead. The 'Crew posted a run in the fifth and sixth while Steve Cooke got into gear to shut down the Braves.

Now, the BrewCrew are one of two teams remaining in the winners bracket. the winner of the this semi-final game will advance to the Championship game. The loser will play in the elimination semi-final game.

BrewCrew Sent to Loser Bracket Finals with Loss

After winning the first three games of the tournament, the BrewCrew needed a win in the fourth to need only one final win to take the championship. But it was not meant to be. The BrewCrew fought hard throughout. Joel Kenney, a loaner from the Chesapeake Hooks, making his first start as a member of the BrewCrew. Kenney dominated the game until a two out solo homerun in the fifth. In the sixth, Perky scratched one more across.

The BrewCrew was unable to get more than one baserunner in any inning and only had four total on three hits. Zach Nadolny had two hits and Ryan Welling had the other.

Next up for the BrewCrew is the winner of the East Prospect, champions of the Susquehanna (PA) League and the Cecil County Braves. The winner of that game will advance to the championship against Perky League.

East Prospect Sends BrewCrew to Third Place Finish

The BrewCrew called on their "Ace in the Hole", Miguel "El Gordo" Nunez to try to get into the championship game of York Labor Day Tournament. This would be a major accomplishment for the BrewCrew. Their last trip to York resulted in a T-10th place and a trip to the championship would bring the BrewCrew a purse of at least $1,000.

But El Gordo did not bring his A game. He allowed 10 runs over 4+ innings and the BrewCrew never had a chance. There was a couple misplayed balls in the field but nothing could of stopped East Prospect on this day.

The third place finish is the best for the BrewCrew in York. Next up for the BrewCrew is a trip to Myrtle Beach to play in the U.S. Adult Baseball World Series. Last year the BrewCrew lost in the championship, 1-0 to the Oklahoma Pelicans.
