June 1 - Welland - 57+ One Day -TBC
Contact - legendsbaseball@cogeco.ca

HI  EVERYONE - First  57+ event was played June 1st in Welland in good
weather - no one kept a detailed scorebook so I'm guessing @ some results
HAMILTON  9   WELLAND  4
DUFF-SIMCOE  16  WELLAND  1(mercy score  5 innings)
DUFF-SIMCOE   5   HAMILTON  1
Great to renew "old" acquaintances on a nice day - one of the things I
noticed was a SIGNIFICANT number of runs being scored from 3rd base on wild
pitches & passed balls - as we play on this season I think we should
re-visit my suggestion to help catchers & pitchers by scoring from third on
a batted ball only, to avoid catchers chasing balls especially in hotter
weather - "food for thought"? (making it an optional rule by the host?)

June 15 - Barrie 35+ (and other age brackets if enough teams apply)
Contact - jimscriver@rogers.com

Barrie held it's annual one day event on Jun 15th. Though we were hoping to have an extra three 35+ teams we ended up with three, mostly 57+ teams from Oakville, Dufferin Simcoe and Barrie. The weather for the day did not look too promising as the consistent wet weather was threatening to interrupt our day. Fortunately the sky cleared early in the morning and the field stayed dry enough to get 2 full games and one 4 inning game in.

Games results: Rockers 7 Barrie 2
                        Oakville 8 Rockers 4
Oakville many  Barrie not so many
*These are unofficial results but the win/loss teams are correct. Barrie played the role of courteous hosts on field.

All teams enjoyed the day, where the focus was on making good plays on the field and sharing larger stories over a beer.

Sept 7//8 - Welland 50+ Provincials
Contact - legendsbaseball@cogeco.ca

The 50+ provincial championship  was played in Welland sept 7 & 8 – it was one of the most competitive tournaments we’ve experienced in several years – a very determined BARRIE team qualified to play in the championship game with a record of

1-1-1  Had Barrie not scored a run in their last @ bats with 2 outs Sunday morning, 3 teams would have completed their preliminary games with a record of 1-2, & OAKVILLE, not Barrie would have qualified to play in the championship – CONGRATS to Mike Burke & the SCARBORO team for regaining the 50+ championship by scoring runs every inning to defeat a very competitive BARRIE team in the championship game -  we had good weather & received MANY compliments on the field conditions of both burgar & M3 – the Welland legends would like to thank ALL teams for their GREAT support @ the “beer pen”

Sept 21/22-- Port Lambton -  35+ Provincials

The 35+ Provincials went very smoothly. The weather was amazing and nicer than most of our summer days.
The final was Woodslee vs Scarboro. Woodslee won 3-2 as it came down right to the wire

Pool play went smoothly as well. Woodslee beat Burlington 10-0 and also defeated Dufferin.   Woodslee received the bye.
Lambton came back to win 9-8 vs Dufferin and lost 9-4 to Scarboro. One bad inning.
Burlginton beat Scarborough 3-1.

Due to the runs against tie breaker, Dufferin and Lambton found themselves in the consultation dispute having score runs and had better games.  The bad side of a 5 team tourney showed its ugly head. But the games were fun and competitive! Lambton won the consultation 10-0

Thank you again for the opportunity to host and showcase what our little town has to offer! Now we are prepping for Arizona in a few weeks.

The Scarboro Maroons of The Scarboro Vintage Baseball League(“SVBL”), a proud member of the Scarborough Baseball Association and the Toronto Baseball Association, captured the 2019 Vintage Baseball Federation Of Ontario (“VBFO”) 45 + Ontario Championship this past weekend.

The championship was hosted by the SVBL on Friday September 27, Saturday September 28 and Sunday, September 29.  Neilson Park was the host facility for the tournament, with preliminary games on Saturday also being played at Wishing Well Park.  The teams participating in the Ontario championship were:

Scarboro Maroons-Host

Brampton Pioneers

Tecumseh Green Giants

Woodslee Orioles

Chatham Diamonds

Walsingham Senators

Scarboro Maroons opened the tournament on Friday night against Brampton and prevailed in the tournament opener-11-7.

When the tournament began in earnest on Saturday, we were facing some fairly inclement weather that cause delays at both facilities in the morning.  Thanks to the hard work of our league volunteers at Wishing Well Park, and, the hardworking City of Toronto Parks and Recreation staff (Joe Khan) along with our league volunteers at Neilson, we were able to get all 6 games (three at each facility) in with minimal delays.  Thanks to all for the hard work and your time on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Maroons met Chatham Diamonds in their second game.  Scarboro prevailed 6-0.

The late game on Saturday saw Scarboro playing the Walsingham Senators, with Scarboro prevailing  11-8.  The Maroons were 3 wins and 0 losses after the preliminary round.  With two other teams 2-0 after Saturday, Scarborough would have to wait for the outcome of the remaining preliminary games Sunday morning to determine if they were going to advance to the championship game.

On Sunday, Tecumseh Green Giants defeated Chatham to become the other 3 win no loss team, which set up the championship game vs. Scarboro.

In the championship game, the Maroons were the visiting team and jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning. Tecumseh answered back scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning, making the score 4-3 after 2 innings.  These were the last runs that the Green Giants would score.  The Maroons scored 1 run in the top of the third, 4 runs in the top of the fourth and another four runs in the top of the six to win the 2019 championship 13-3.

This ends a hugely successful season for the SVBL and our Scarboro Maroons Provincial and National Programs:

2019 Canadian National Old- Timers Baseball Federation (“CNOBF”) 43 + Canadian Championship

2019 Vintage Baseball Federation Of Ontario 50+ Provincial Championship

2019 Vintage Baseball Federation Of Ontario 45 + Provincial Championship

2019 Vintage Baseball Federation Of Ontario 35 + Provincial Finalists (losing to Woodslee Orioles 3-2 in the championship game)

Scarboro is “Vintage Baseball Title Town”!
