Monday to Thursday 6PM to 8PM. We start on time!
The first week of football is conditioning. Our rules state that every athlete must complete 8 hours of helmets only heat acclimatization conditioning before they wear full equipment. If your child misses a day in the first week those hours must be made up the following week. We will track every athlete’s time to be certain that they receive the necessary conditioning.
WHAT TO WEAR
· The first week is helmets only. We expect that the kids will have their helmets on and adjusted to fit promptly at 6PM on Monday. If you need help making adjustments please arrive a little early and ask any coach for assistance.
· Mouth guards must be worn. Even though there will not be any contact the first week the athlete must still have a mouth guard in. This is the time for getting used to wearing the gear again.
· Practice jersey
· Athletic shorts
· Cleats
· Cups are not required at this point but we are getting used to running with helmets on it is not a bad idea to get used to the cup as well
Water
· Every athlete needs to bring water to practice. It is going to be hot and we will be working out. We do not have access to water on the fields where we practice
· Bring more than you think they will need
· Do not bring pop or juice
What to Expect
· This is conditioning. We will spend roughly the first hour as a group of 4th, 5th and 6th graders doing drills to get ourselves ready for the season. There will be a lot of running!
· We will then break out into our age groups and work as teams performing skill related drills that are again related to conditioning
· Your son or daughter will come home tired and wake up sore
· If this is their first time wearing a helmet they may complain of a headache or neck ache. Getting used to the helmet takes time. If the problem persists have them talk to a coach to verify that it is not too tight
