Little Thunder - Intro to Track:

An introduction to track and field for athletes born 2018-2021 (4-7 years old).  Developmentally age appropriate light conditioning and exposure to all aspects of Track and Field. Any athlete born before 2018 is required to register for our regular Thunder program, with no exceptions. Athletes will train one night per week for 45 – 60 min. Athletes will be taught the basic fundamentals of sprints, shot put, long jump, and turbo javelin.  Athletes will learn track etiquette and be exposed to agility and speed work through the use of developmentally appropriate games.  Athletes will have the opportunity to compete in local track meets held by Tri-City Thunder. (Additional fees for track meets per event will be required.) Little Thunder starts on Monday April 21, 2025 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will run every Monday for 6 weeks. All practices are at the Southridge High School Track in Kennewick, WA.

Cost:

 A USATF Membership is REQUIRED to join the Tri-City Thunder and can be obtained at www.USATF.org. Yearly memberships for youth are available for $35 per calendar year. (When registering for a USATF membership, ensure you select "Tri-City Thunder" when asked to affilate with a club.)

Club fee: $90 per athlete. (Financial options are available for those who qualify. Please visit this link for more information.)

 

Thunder Track Program:

Tri-City Thunder Track program is open to athletes born 2007-2017. Additionally, athletes born after July 27, 2006 are also eligible. (USATF JO rules state as long as athlete does not turn 19 before the last day of the USATF JO National track meet they are eligible to compete in the 17/18 age category.)

This program is intended for athletes wanting to develop their track and field skills. Thunder Track caters to both new and experienced track athletes. Athletes will train with others in their ability and age group and will receive coaching from the area’s top track and field coaches.

Practices are held at the Southridge High School track 6:30-8 p.m. Monday – Thursday; however, you are not required to attend all of them and your child will attend practices based on the events they choose to participate in.  Practices are structured in order to better accommodate coaches and athletes who choose to participate in multiple events.  Thunder athletes are strongly encouraged to attend Junior Olympics, although not required.

Athletes born AFTER December 31, 2017  are required to register for the Little Thunder program. Thunder Track practice will start Monday, April 21 and run through early July for athletes who qualify for the USATF Region 13 JO Championships. All practices are at the Southridge High School Track in Kennewick, WA. (Unless athletes qualify for USATF Regionals, their season will end in June.)

Thunder Track Team Costs:

If your USATF membership is not affilated with the club you will not be able to compete for the club at meets.)

- Club fee of $125 per athlete with discounts for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th family members registering. Current high school seniors graduating in 2025 are given a free 

- $40 volunteer fee per family. (Volunteer fee is refundable if certain conditions are met and refund is requested in writing when conditions are met.)

- Uniform $35 for top (Required) $25 for bottom (Optional, unless on a relay team. USATF guidelines state all relay team members must match.)

Tri-City Thunder also offers a track and cross country season for ages 8-18.  The season typically runs from mid September through November.  Athletes who qualify for Nationals will continue to train through mid December.
