Hayward United secured two preseason wins this weekend, bringing their record to 2-2 on the year. The Wolfpack opened the day by defeating Duluth side, Green Machine SC, 3-0. The Pack opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Drogba Njimegni slotted the ball into the bottom corner off a feed from Ethan Wolfe. Hayward scored again in the 61st minute when Nik Nordquist tapped in a ball off a backdoor feed from Kaden Bergman. The Wolfpack finished the scoring in the 81st minute when Carson Gorecki headed the ball in off a corner kick by Nils Eckstrom. Cole Bergman finished with 7 saves.
The Wolfpack then took on FC Midnimo, a newly formed team from Barron, defeating them 3-2. Hayward opened the scoring on a breakaway goal by Marshall Kennell in the 3rd minute and popped in another goal 15 minutes later when Durim Camili slotted the ball past the keeper. Both goals were assisted by Kaden Bergman. After FC Midnimo tied the game up at 2-2 midway through the second half, the Wolfpack scored the winning goal when Bergman poked the ball home after a scramble following a corner kick in the 76th minute. Nils Eckstrom got the assist. Cole Bergman finished with 5 saves.
The Wolfpack will be back in action on Sunday, June 28th as they open up WPASL league play against Lobos FC, Wausau's top amateur soccer team. The game kicks off at 2pm at the Hayward Soccer Complex, located north of town on HWY 63 across from the KOA Campground.
