Rileigh McGree grabs pair of wins at Gene Hughes
CORVALLIS — Rileigh McGree had an outstanding start to the 2021 track season Saturday.
The Butte Central junior picked up a pair of wins to lead the Maroons at the Gene Hughes Invitational. (Results)
McGree won the 200-meter race and the 100-meter hurdles in the season-opening meet. She posted a personal-best time of 16.50 seconds to win the hurdles. Dillon’s Sydney Petersen (17.20) and Ainsley Shipman (17.66) were her closest competition.
McGree won the 200 in 27.55. Ashton Lewis of Stevensville placed second, finishing more than a second back at 28.66.
BC senior Amira Bolton placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 6 inches. She also finished 10th in the javelin with a mark of 76-4.
On the boys’ side, sophomore Kyle Holter had a solid day in his first high school track meet. Holter placed second in the lone jump, leaping 19-4. Holter cleared 5-6 to place seventh in the high jump and finished ninth in the javelin at 117 feet.
Central freshman Jack Keeley placed shortly behind Holter, taking ninth in the gaveling with a mark of 111-1.
Dillon’s Cole Truman won the javelin with a personal-best mark of 165-2. Daxon Graham won the 300 hurdles for Dillon with a time of 42.68.
Maroon senior Egan Lester placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 18-0.
Hamilton’s boys’ won the team title with 111 points. That was one better than Frenchtown. Polson took third at 59 points, followed closely by Dillon with 57 and Corvallis with 56. The Maroons scored eight points, tying Anaconda for eighth place.
Dillon scored 103 points to win the girls’ competition. Corvallis took second at 97.25, and Seeley-Swan placed third at 77.25.
The Maroons placed eighth with 22, finishing four points behind Anaconda.
Lauryn Peterson and Shipman picked up individual victories to lead the Beavers to the title. Peterson won the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.05. Shipman won the triple jump with a mark of 34-7.
Petersen and Shipman also ran a leg of Dillon’s victories 400-meter relay team. Jordyn Wakler and Zoey Morast also ran a leg.
Next up for the Maroons is an April 10 meet with Butte High and Kalispell Glacier in Butte
