The Holt Jr Rams Football Board of Directors thanks you for volunteering your time to coach the youth of our community. It is a big commitment and one that comes with many expectations from the board, the parents and the athletes.
Our program is structured on the idea that we are a feeder program for the Jr High and High School. We strive to teach the fundamentals in a safe and fun environment that promotes participation at all levels of athletic ability. We consider the number of returning athletes as the best gauge of a successful season. Winning games is inherently more fun than losing but winning at the expense of some players on the team is unacceptable at the youth level.
By being selected to coach, whether Head Coach or Assistant Coach, the board is endorsing you as a representative of our program. With that you are expected to hold yourself to the highest standards both on and off the field. Coaching for the Holt Jr Rams should be seen as a privilege.
Being a Jr Rams football coach is time consuming. As a coach you are expected to:
· Attend nearly every practice and game with very few, if any, exceptions
· You are expected to have a well prepared practice plan
· Complete the USA Football courses on concussions and safety
· Keep practice safe and age appropriate
· Follow all MMPFL rules
· The coach will not seek an advantage by circumvention of the spirit or letter of the rules
· Lead by example, especially as it pertains to good sportsmanship and respect for all those involved in the program
· To place the success of the Team above the desire to win games
· To keep communication with parents and players open, honest and transparent
· To adapt and use the playbook provided by the Varsity program
· Remember to treat each kid as an individual, remembering the large spread of emotional and physical development in this age group
· Support a drug, alcohol and tobacco free environment and refrain from their use at all HJRF events
Lastly, I will remember that the children participate to have fun with their friends and that the game is for them, not for the adults.
