Palm Springs – The San Diego Force headed back to the hotel Tuesday night with their heads hanging low after a late-inning loss on the road to the Palm Springs Power that ended a seven-game win streak.
Chase Martinez started on the mound for the Force. He came out of the gates spitting fire with three up, three down, including a perfectly executed first base pickoff between Martinez and Taylor Meaux. The Power scored a run in the second off a fielding error, but Martinez maintained control of the game, working his way out of a bases-loaded jam that allowed the Force to retaliate in the third.
Mcelveny led off the next inning with a single and a double steal that put the Force on the board. Martinez kept his head down and went to work. He connected with Taylor Meaux again in the bottom of the third for another pickoff and then held the game to ones until the seventh.
Following the seventh inning stretch, things spun out of control for the Force. A hit-by-pitch put Mason Velasquez, the Power’s first baseman, on base. The following ensues of hits, a wild pitch, and a couple of intentional walks allowed the Power to score a total of four runs against the Force’s relief pitcher.
The scoring stopped there and the Force came away with their third loss of the season, dropping them to 10-3 overall on the season.
The Force plays the power again Wednesday, June 30 at Palm Springs Stadium. The first pitch is at 7 pm.
