Force Anxious to Escape the Desert Heat After Second Straight Loss
June 30, 2021
By Cassidy Thornburg
Palm Springs — The San Diego Force dropped their second straight to the Palm Springs Power. The struggles came more on the mound and less at the plate, as they did in game one. The Force had nine total hits on the night, six more than the night before, but gave up 12 hits, five more than the first game.
#20 Jacob Hennessey started on the mound for the Force, but uncharacteristically struggled to find the zone. He walked five of the 12 batters he faced and gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings of work. #37 Steven Raussa came in relief and quickly got the Force out of the inning, but did not come away scotch free on the night. Raussa accrued some damage of his own in the third. The Power reached an early 9-0 lead before the Force again turned to their bullpen.
The Force came alive at the plate in the bottom of the third, sparkling a glimmer of hope at a comeback. #99 Menelik Israel Izzy and #36 Eligha Lewis hit back-to-back RBI-IB’s that gave the Force two. The Power quickly put a stop to the Force’s momentum and held them to two the remainder of the game. Palm Springs added a couple of runs against the Force’s final three relief pitchers, leaving the Force anxious to escape the desert heat.
