Good Afternoon Again:
Coach Emily has asked that we have all of our stroke requests and scratches for Saturday's meet in by tomorrow, Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. There are many people on vacation and it is our final division meet of the year. It will also decide the DIvision Championship, so she'd like some extra time to set the lineup. I am very appreciative of her organization and detailed approach to the team, and would appreciate all of your help in supporting her and all of our coaches as our season comes toward a close.

Good Morning All.
We are in desparate need of volunteers for Wednesday Night's Meet! It is urgent that people step up to help out with this.
- We Need One (1) Clerk of Course for the first 1/2
- We Need Two (2) Timers for first 1/2
- We Need SEVEN (7) Timers for second 1/2
- We Need One of each of the following
- Consession Selling 2nd 1/2
- Grill Wrapper 2nd 1/2
- Griller first 1/2
- Griller second 1/2
- Runner
At this point in the season, I have asked Kim Sweat to pull the names of families that have not volunteered. While I don't want this to happen, swimmers will be scratched from the meet if families have not volunteered. PLEASE do not make us take that action. Let's continue to show the league the professional and organized operation we run.

Good Evening Everyone!
Swim-A-Thon:
It was a crazy busy weekend, and a fantastic swim-a-thon! Special thank you to Don Long for operating the tent for a few hours to give me a break. It was greatly appreciated. While we will continue to take donations at the meet on Wednesday Night, at this time, along with the funds from our anonymous donor, we have raised a little over $3,000.00 this weekend, which also included $260 worth of donations from pool patrons today. That's not too shabby for a rainy weekend where no one was really at the pool for the first six hours. If you still want to contribute, please feel free to do so.
HSL CHAMPIONSHIPS:
HSL Champs will be held on the weekend of July 23/24 and we are one of three hosts. THIS IS A HUGE Funraiser for the team! There will be three sessions as follows:
- Saturday Morning - Held at Fountain Green Swim Club - will be for non-finalist 10 and under swimmers. That means any 10U who is not in the top 20 of a particular event can swim at this session
- Saturday Evening - Held at Bel Air Athletic Club - will be for non-finalist 11 and older swimmers. That means any 11&O who is not in the top 20 of a particular event can swim at this session. There is also an open 100 Freestyle during this session for swimmers 9 and older. Any 9/10 swimmer can participate at no cost. Any 11/12 swimmer who has at least 1 event in the session can participate at no cost. Any 13 and older swimmer may participate if that swimmer has no events held during finals on Sunday.
- Sunday Morning - Held at Fallston Club - will be for the Top 20 swimmers of any age in any event.
Important Notes:
- We won't necessarily know if a swimmer is in the top 20 if it is close, because some swimmers in the top 20 may choose not to swim in the meet, which means lower seeded swimmers could bump up to Sunday Morning
- There is a cost for entry in the Championship Meet - $5.00 per event, not including relays.
- Timeline for Entries - We have to submit our entries for the meet on Monday July 18, 2022. As a result, we will need your entries by Monday at 12:00 PM.
- YES - you can swim in multiple sessions if you qualify. Your swimmer can swim up to three events (individual events) and a relay. So, ideally you will just sign your swimmer up for the events in which they wish to participate, and by Wednesday, 7/20 we will know in which sessions your swimmer will be participating.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HSL:
- We will need volunteers to help run our session, which is basically just a large meet. The biggest difference is that we need an awards table because we give out medals at the meet in an award ceremony. There is also some facility set up on Friday Night. The Sign-Up Genius Link is: https://www.signupgenius.com/
go/4090D48AFA72CA6F58-20223. PLEASE SIGN UP TO HELP US OUT. This is a REALLY fun session to take part in and it generally moves very quickly. - We also need to provide officials for all sessions - however, the league is letting officials notify the league when they are available (which sessions). That way, if we can fill out the needs for the league, each team will not be assigned a certain amount regardless of session. I'd ask our officials to please sign in and let them know when you're available. Click the link if you're an official to let the league know. https://forms.office.com/r/
2HQmdzivJX - Lastly, because we are a host team, we are only required to provide timers for one lane for one session of the meet. In our case, we need to provide timers for Lane 1 during the Sunday Morning Session at Fallston. That means we need 6 timers (3 for each 1/2 of the meet). Please e-mail me if you are able to time and I will take the first 6 available.
Thank you for all of your help this season! Let's finish strong!

Good Afternoon Again:
- Scratches and stroke requests for Wednesday's Meet are due TOMORROW (SUNDAY) at 12:00 PM.
- WE NEED THE FOLLOWING VOLUNTEERS:
- EIGHT (8) Second 1/2 Timers
- One (1) First 1/2 Clerk of Course
- One (1) First 1/2 Grill Wrapper
- One (1) Second 1/2 Grill Wrapper
- One (1) First 1/2 Griller
- One (1) Second 1/2 Griller
- Runner
We are rolling into the end of the season quickly! Please help us finish our last home meet strong!

Good Afternoon Everyone! We almost made it through the meet without getting too wet. Excellent job this morning to everyone!
SWIM-A-THON UPDATE:
We will be swimming from 3 PM today until 9:45 PM. We will then resume tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM and push through until 3 pm. This is mostly because we had very limited interest in the overnight swim slots. There are a few open slots tomorrow afternoon that we'd love to fill!
I can't wait to see everyone out there!

July 8, 2022 4:43pm
Good Afternoon All:
I know there are a lot of questions about the weather and what it will mean for the swim meet. This is what we know:
- Aberdeen, as the host, will evaluate the conditions tomorrow around 5 AM. They will make a decision at that point whether their facility will allow the meet or force us to postpone until Monday Night. If they allow use of the facility, the coaches may still agree to postpone. SO BE ON THE LOOKOUT EARLY TOMORROW FOR AN E-MAIL RELATED TO THIS!
- If it is postponed to Monday Night, I am not certain how the coaches will handle the scratches and add-ins, although under the rules, add-ins can only swim as exhibition.
I have also attached the Meet Program. THERE WILL NOT BE PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TOMORROW MORNING, SO PLEASE PRINT THIS IF YOU WANT IT TOMORROW.
Thanks for your patience.

Good Morning Everyone! I've received a lot of questions about tomorrow's meet AT ABERDEEN (615 Old Robinhood Road, Aberdeen, Maryland 21001) particularly about weather. Please review this entire e-mail so you know what is happening.
WEATHER:
We are expecting rain throughout the meet tomorrow. As with our practices, as long as there is no thunder or lightening and we can see the bottom of the pool, the meet will go on. Thunder or Lightening results in a 30 minute delay (from the last sound/sight). Visibility is a momentary thing and may slow the meet, but it's unlikely that such a delay will last for an extended period.
If it is determined that the meet must be postponed, we will have to make it up on MONDAY NIGHT. Just as with the Fallston Meet, I will reach out to see who cannot make it to that makeup time.
TIMELINE:
Swimmers
- Coaches Arrival: 6:50 AM
- Swimmer Arrival: By 7:05 AM
- Team Meeting: 7:15 AM
- 10U Warmup: 7:30 AM
- 11& Older Warmup: 7:45 AM
Volunteers:
- Arrival/Check-In: 7:15 - 7:30
Lastly, I have attached the entries for the meet.
See you all on pool deck and please dress for the weather!

Good Afternoon Everyone!
At this time we still need 1 stroke and turn official and 1 second half timer for Saturday's meet at Aberdeen. Please jump in as soon as possible.
SWIM-A-THON UPDATE:
We only have 34 swimmers sign up so far for the swim-a-thon! We desperately need more swimmers to help with this fantastic cause. Please sign-up and participate! It's 15 minutes and $10 that goes to a great charity! Also - Cancer LifeNet has provided us with nearly 300 T-Shirts to give out to swimmers and others who donate!
Let's continue to be the class of the league with our outreach efforts!

Just as our Morning Swimmers had a Breakfast Social, our afternoon Swimmers will have a Pizza Social tonight. If you signed up to help out, please be there by 5:30. If your swimmer is swimming afternoons (either as usual or just this week/day for camp purposes) please come by for pizza before or after your practice. Pizza should be there by about 5:45.

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July.
We're in the home stretch! 3 meets remaining, a picnic and Championships. Please note the following:
- Scratches and Stroke Requests are due this week by WEDNESDAY at 12:00 PM (That's Tomorrow). Please be sure to get them in on time.
- VOLUNTEERS FOR ABERDEEN MEET: We still need 1 stroke & turn official and 4 second half timers for this Saturday's meet. If you haven't volunteered, please step up. We will now be checking the sign-up and show-up records to see who has failed to volunteer. Please don't put me in the position to scratch swimmers from meets because parents haven't stepped up.
- Swim-A-Thon Update: We've already had 19 swimmers sign-up, but with 96 slots to fill at least, we need to step this up! Please participate and help us raise money for a great cause!
See you all on deck!

July 3, 2022 2:01pm
Good Afternoon Everyone and Happy 4th of July Weekend!
It's that time! Below is the Sign-Up Link for the Swim-A-Thon. Here are some important notes:
- When you register, please Venmo the money for the registration ($10) to @FGST1 and write in the note "Swim-A-Thon" and the swimmer's name.
- If you want your swimmer to swim with a coach, dolphin helper, or junior coach, please let us know (and identify who your swimmer would like to swim with) and we will do what we can to make it happen. We'd ask that you provide an additional $5 donation for that. You should note that request on the Venmo payment.
- If you do not use Venmo, you can certainly pay by cash or check. You can either provide it to me directly in an envelope with the swimmer's name and time slot, or drop it off at the pool office (let them know it's for me).
- For swimmers who are swimming overnight, you may camp out at the pool at no charge! The club is also having a campout that night, so there will be a movie playing at some point with popcorn!
- If we run out of slots to swim, we will open another lane! There will be multiple lanes available when the pool is closed for the night.
- PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS MAY SWIM!
- Please also remember to do your best to raise money for your swimmer as well! Any additional fundraising can be dropped off at the office in an evelope for me, identifying the swimmer, or paid by Venmo identifying the swimmer. The top three fund raisers will receive prizes at the Picnic!
- Reminder: Once again we've had an anonymous donor step up to match the first $1,000.00 raised!
Let's do what we can to add to the approximately $10,000 that we've raised in the last two years for Cancer LifeNet!
https://www.signupgenius.com/
Hope to see you all on pool deck! Stay cool and Happy Independence Day!

Hi Everyone Again.
It was pointed out to me that I didn't mention practice for this afternoon. We are still having practice for the afternoon swimmers today at the usual time. Remember, this is for the normal afternoon swimmers and those who were added on after e-mailing me. We only have 4 lanes, so morning swimmers SHOULD NOT come to the afternoon session without clearing it with me first.

Good Morning Everyone. Great Meet Last Night! Thanks for bringing the GREEN! It was also very moving to see the support everyone provided to Julianna for the final meet of her 15-Season FGST Career! Thank you again to EVERYONE for bringing the sportsmanship and family feeling to the team!
With our mini-break and the 4th of July upon us, I wanted to update our practice schedule for the next week and update everyone on the Swim-A-Thon! (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ENTIRE E-MAIL IS FOR JOPPATOWNE SWIMMERS ALSO - WE HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US FOR THE SWIM-A-THON)!
Our Practice Schedule for the Next Week is as follows:
- Friday, July 1st - NO PRACTICE! Have a Great Weekend!
- Monday, July 4th - NO PRACTICE - Happy Independence Day
- Tuesday, July 5th - Normal Schedule for Morning & Afternoon
- Wednesday, July 6th - Normal Schedule for Morning - AFTERNOON WILL HAVE PRACTICE - PIZZA SOCIAL!
- Thursday, July 7th - Normal Schedule for Morning & Afternoon (remember there is no practice on Thursday Mornings)
- Friday, July 8th - Normal Schedule
SWIM-A-THON:
Our Annual Swim-A-Thon to benefit Cancer LifeNet is scheduled for July 9, 2022-July 10, 2022 beginning at 3PM on Saturday and going all the way until 3 PM on Sunday! YES, you will be able to camp out at FG that night if your swimmer wants to swim in the middle of the night.
Once again this year, a donor has stepped up to match the first $1,000 raised!
We will do our swims in 15-minute blocks again, with each block costing $10. Of course, we will gladly take additional donations! In the past 2 years we have raised approximately $10,000 for Cancer LifeNet and we're hoping to keep that going! I will be sending out a signup genius for the swim slots. If we fill all of the slots, we can add a lane to the swim! If a young swimmer would like to swim with a Dolphin Helper, Jr. Coach, or Coach, please let us know and we will do everything to make that happen if possible! PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO SWIM AS WELL - You might just catch me in the pool at some point!
Money for the Swim-A-Thon can be delivered by Venmo (@FGST1) or by dropping off a check or cash to the "Quinn" ribbon folder in the mailboxes at practice!
This has become an amazing fundraiser for a great cause, and we'd love to see it grow. Please help us raise money for this fantastic cause!
Happy Fourth of July EVERYONE!

Good Morning! It was a great meet the last two nights - wonderful to see swimmers accomplishing goals, especially our little ones starting to make it down the lanes on their own!
I know it's a quick turn-around, but we have to get ready for tomorrow morning. I have attached the entries for the Rock Spring Meet Tomorrow. As a reminder, if you do not get your scratches/stroke requests in by the deadline (Thursday at 10am), I can't guarantee they will go through. The HSL has rules about when coaches must submit entries, and they cannot wait.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
We need 1 GRILL WRAPPER for the 1st 1/2 of the meet tomorrow.
We need 5 Timers for the 2nd 1/2 of the meet tomorrow.
Again - IF YOU HAVEN'T VOLUNTEERED, NOW'S THE TIME TO STEP UP!
TIMELINE:
For Volunteers:
Volunteers for Parking, Deck Set-Up and Concessions Set-Up should arrive at 6:30AM. FIRST HALF GRILLERS – PLEASE ARRIVE AT 6:30 AS WELL!
All other volunteers should arrive by 7 AM. Please remember to check in with Kim Sweat when you arrive.

Meet Starts at 8 AM
See you all on deck!

Some questions have popped up about practice schedules. A few quick answers:
- We NEVER Practice Thursday Mornings. The Landscapers are usually there and we can't be there at that time.
- This Week, because of the continuation of the meet to tomorrow night, we may be adjusting the practice schedule for Friday Morning. I will let you know once we've decided what the change will be, if any.

June 22, 2022 8:54pm
Good Evening Everyone. That was an eventful start to a swim meet. For those who weren't there, a swimmer became ill in the pool, and it had to be shut down for the evening, pushing the remainder of our meet to tomorrow night, Thursday, June 23, 2022. To be honest, since I'm writing this e-mail in the midst of a Thunderstorm, we should probably be grateful to the swimmer, as we could instead be cleaning up and packing up in a driving rain.
The timeline for tomorrow will be the same as tonight. Coaches should arive by 4:30 PM. Coaches Warm-Ups are at 4:45 PM. Non-Coach Warm-Ups are at 5:30, so please arrive by 5 PM. The meet will begin at 6 PM with Event #12, Heat 3.
The continuation of the meet creates some problems. Some people will not be able to make it tomorrow night who were already in the meet. Others who weren't in the meet may now be able to make it tomorrow. Volunteers may have some problems as well.
The HSL Rule on Meet Continuation says that the teams are frozen once the first event starts. That means swimmers who were not already in the meet cannot be added to the meet except as an exhibition (their times will show up and it count towards Champs as having swam in a meet, but they cannot earn points in this meet).
So, I am now putting out four scenarios (3 for swimmers, 1 for volunteers). Three require a response to me by 9 AM tomorrow (REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL). The other requires no response. They are as follows:
FOR SWIMMERS:
- Your swimmer was entered in the meet tonight, and that swimmer is able to swim tomorrow night. YOU DO NOTHING. JUST SHOW UP TOMORROW NIGHT TO SWIM.
- Your Swimmer was entered in the meet tonight, but cannot make it tomorrow night. PLEASE E-MAIL ME IMMEDIATELY (NO LATER THAN 9AM TOMORROW) SO THAT I CAN LET COACH EMILY KNOW. IN YOUR E-MAIL, LET ME KNOW IF YOUR SWIMMER WAS SCHEDULED TO BE IN A RELAY.
- Your Swimmer was scratched from this meet, but is able to make it tomorrow night. PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF, AND ONLY IF, YOU WANT YOUR SWIMMER TO SWIM AS AN EXHIBITION ENTRY TOMORROW NIGHT (We cannot promise to be able to get these swimmers in, as we still have to keep the timeline of the meet, but there is a possibility if others have to scratch).
FOR VOLUNTEERS:
- If you were scheduled to volunteer tonight and are not able to make it tomorrow night - E-MAIL ME IMMEDIATELY SO THAT WE CAN MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS. Even if your swimmer has finished or is unable to return tomorrow, if you are able to, we'd ask that you please do so.
Thank you for your kind consideration and attention to this message.
Jim Quinn
Swim Team Director

June 18, 2022 4:59pm
Good Afternoon Everyone! I was extremely proud to see the outstanding sportsmanship that was on display this morning. Joppatowne has struggled to regain footing after the last two years, and their staff and director were thrilled to see how much our swimmers supported theirs throughout the meet. We are taking this one step further by providing their swimmers a place to swim for morning practices as they have struggled to work with HCPS facilities management for use of Magnolia Middle. Their swimmers will be swimming in with ours for morning practices through the end of the season while still maintaining their own separate team. I know everyone will be welcoming to those swimmers and their families!
SCRATCHES & STROKE REQUESTS: These are due by TOMORROW, Sunday, 6/19/22 at 12:00 pm. Please be sure to have them in before that time.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We still need the following for Wednesday Night's Meet AT Fallston Club:
1 First Half Timer
5 Second Half Timers
2 Stroke & Turn Officials
Please do your part to step up.
VOLUNTEERISM & PROBLEMS: First and foremost I want to thank all of the stroke and turn officials who stepped in to help us run the meet this week. Joppatowne is a very small team and struggled to provide the necessary volunteers, but you stepped up admirably to make it happen. Your effort is greatly appreciated.
Second - I know that my messages usually remain positive, but unfortunately, I am forced to address a major issue with volunteerism. The committee assembled to help operate this amazing team was thoroughly embarassed this morning. We had timers who could not be relieved for the second half of the meet because their replacements were stuck in clerk of course (having volunteered for the first 1/2 there) because they were not relieved. We then discovered that the person who decided to provide relief for Clerk of Course was a person who regularly volunteers far more than the 4 slots required per family. We have been unable to fill a Runner position for either of our meets this season (this position is about as simple as any position can be). Kim Sweat is constantly trying to flag down and locate volunteers who have signed up for positions and either haven't shown up, or just don't check in with her as I request in every meet timeline e-mail.
Operating swim meets and this team in such fashion is not only untenable, it is thoroughly unacceptable. We have 263 Swimmers on this team. There should never be a volunteer shortage. I want to believe that some of the shortage is due in part to newer swim families being uncomfortable filling roles that they perceive are too difficult to learn or understand. However, I've seen many of our 60 new swim families step up in volunteer roles pretty quickly. I am also certain that parents of younger swimmers often struggle to volunteer because their young swimmers need more direct supervision. The problem there is that I've also seen many of our parents of 6u swimmers already step up up to help out. That leaves me with the alternative; that people either figure that someone else will do it, or worse, that some people feel as though others' time and energy is less valuable than their own. Either thought is problematic for a team and a league that runs on volunteers. I've said it before and it bears repeating - many hands make light work. We are all part of the Fountain Green Swim Family, and we all need to do our part to keep the family running.
For those of you who have volunteered already and continue to step up to help our season move forward, I am extremely grateful for your willingness to do so and your outstanding effort. For those who have hidden in the shadows a little, or have otherwise not been pulling your weight, please accept this message as a gentle prodding to get involved and help out, as well as fair warning that if people continue to not volunteer, I will be forced to bring back the policy of scratching swimmers from meets whose families have failed to meet their volunteer obligations. I don't want to have to do that, so I am requesting that you please step up anytime you hear a call from Kim Sweat, myself, or any other swim team committee person for volunteers. It is, of course, for the kids!
Thank you for your attention and kind consideration.
Jim Quinn
Swim Team Director

June 17, 2022 9:32am
Good Morning Again:
We are swimming Joppatowne this weekend and they only have about 30 swimmers. As you can imagine, this creates a bit of a volunteer shortage for them. They are one of the teams that are trying to make it back after the last couple seasons, so we really need to do what we can to help them out. To that end, we have been informed that they only have 1 or maybe 2 stroke and turn officials for tomorrow. As a result, we will need people to step up to help out with S&T tomorrow morning.
If you are a trained official, please bring your white shirt and blue shorts just in case we need to tap you for some assistance tomorrow. Even if we can have several people serve as 1/2 meet officials, it would be fantastic. Your help is very much appreciated.

Good Afternoon Everyone! I hope you are all as excited as I am about having Wednesday Night Meets Again! Here are some important Reminders:
- THE PULLED PORK IS BACK!!!! Our Best-In-The-County Concessions will have pulled pork sandwiches tonight! Don't miss out on a fantastic dinner!
- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We still need ONE second half timer and ONE S&T Official. I know at least two people spoke to me last night about helping out with S&T, but this is a reminder.
- HSL RULES REGARDING MEETS: Please be aware that there are absolutely NO PHONES OR CAMERAS ARE PERMITTED BEHIND THE STARTING BLOCKS! NOT FOR A PICTURE, A PHONE CALL, A QUICK TEXT OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON. If you must take a call or text, please move from behind the blocks to another area of the pool before doing so. THIS SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING, BUT TIMERS AND OFFICIALS SHOULD NOT BE ON PHONES DURING THE MEET. This is an HSL rule for the safety of our swimmers. If you have your phone out behind the blocks, it is considered a SPORTSMANSHIP VIOLATION!
- SCRATCHES FOR SATURDAY: These are due on THURSDAY at 10AM
- TIMERS/OFFICIALS: Please be sure to take your responsibilities seriously. We had a few issues during the scrimmage in relation to times and missed calls. That is okay - after all, that's why we do the scrimmage. However, here are a couple of notes for you:
- Timers -
- Make sure you ask the swimmer's name before they get on the block to confirm the correct swimmer is there
- Please pay close attention to the finishes to get the most accurate time
- Officials -
- Most of this is addressed in the pre-meet official briefing; however, here are a few pointers from what we saw on Saturday:
- There are NO FLIP TURNS during an INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY in summer swim
- Please pay close attention to finishes for proper 2-hand touches (Fly and Breast) and make sure swimmers stay on their back (not past vertical if they look over their shoulder) at their backstroke finish.
- Most of this is addressed in the pre-meet official briefing; however, here are a few pointers from what we saw on Saturday:
- Timers -
Thank you all for your support!

Thank you for your help and attention!

Good Afternoon.
As a reminder, we will begin Summer Morning practices this coming Friday Morning (6/17). Summer Afternoon Practices will begin on Monday, 6/20. Please Note that on 6/20, we will ONLY Have practice for the 10U groups because the pool is closing early for TEEN SPLASH!
As I have mentioned before, we only have 4 lanes availbale for afternoon practices. Because of this, I am asking that you only sign up for the afternoons if you absolutely cannot make it to the morning practices. The sign-up genius for afternoon practices is https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090D48AFA72CA6F58-2022.
Please note, there is only 1 day identified on the sign-up genius. It simply represents your intention to have your swimmer attend afternoon practices.
Q&A Regarding Afternoon Practices:
QUESTION: I signed up for afternoons, but my swimmer is able to make morning practices during some weeks during the summer. Should I still sign up for afternoons? If so, do I have to e-mail to request to attend mornings when my swimmer can make them?
ANSWER: Still sign up for afternoons if you expect afternoons to be the normal situation for you. You do not have to request to attend mornings, as those practices have much more availability of space. Just show up.
QUESTION: I don't expect to use afternoon practices, but my swimmer has 2 camps this summer that are in the morning and he/she will need to swim afternoons those 2 weeks. Should I register for afternoons? Should I just e-mail a request for those couple of weeks?
ANSWER: If you expect your default to be morning practices with only a couple weeks where afternoon is needed, DO NOT sign up for afternoons. Just e-mail to let us know that your swimmer will be attending the afternoon practices prior to those weeks where it will take place.
QUESTION: I have a wonderful teenager who swims on the team and he/she just can't seem to get up in time for morning practices. Should I sign up for afternoon practices?
ANSWER: Short answer is NO with one limited exception. Afternoon practices are reserved for swimmers who absolutely cannot make it to mornings due to regular schedule conficts, not for our teens who just don't want to get up. If we allowed that, we'd have an afternoon full of 13-18 swimmers. That said, if a swimmer has employment that keeps him/her out past 11PM regularly throughout the week, we can certainly make an exception.
QUESTION: What if my swimmer misses a morning practice (not habitually)? Can I just show up at the afternoon practice that day and swim?
ANSWER: If your swimmer misses a morning practice, please feel free to reach out to see if there is an opportunity to swim that afternoon. Generally we can accomodate an extra person or two here and there, but not every day. Remember, we need to know how many coaches we need each day.
I hope that clarifies the afternoon schedule questions. As always, please let me know if you have any questions that I haven't already answered in this e-mail.

Good Evening Everyone! Unfortunately, due to my misreading the sign-up genius, it appears we are still short 12 timers for tomorrow. Please step up to help out in the morning!
I have attached the Entries for the scrimmage. If your swimmer is entered and should be scratched, don't worry about it. If your swimmer is in an incorrect age-group, or is missing entirely, please let us know. We can generally make corrections tomorrow morning.

Good Afternoon All:
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SCRIMMAGE: Because this scrimmage is only our team, we have to fill all of the timer, official, and clerk of course slots on our own. At this time we are in need of FOURTEEN Timers, a Head/Backup Timer for the second 1/2 of the meet and 1 Stroke and Turn official. Please go to the sign-up genius link on the website to sign up for one of these positions. The timer slots run the length of the meet; however, I would anticipate being completed by 10:30 at the very latest.
THURSDAY NIGHT PRACTICE - PIZZA NIGHT: I was extremely impressed with the number of swimmers who came out and braved the rainy weather for swim practicelast night. So much, in fact, that I have ordered Pizza to be delivered at FGSC at 5:30 tomorrow evening for the swimmers and coaches. To help facilitate this I am asking two things:
- Please do not set up under the big pavilion for practice, as that is where we will set up the pizza; and
- Anyone willing to help serve while your're there would be greatly appreciated.
This Pizza Social does NOT replace the one on July 6 for the afternoon swimmers. This is just a treat for the team and coaches!

Good Afternoon Everyone! Please review the below updates:
TEAM SWIM SUITS: At present we are awaiting delivery of additional suits. It is my understanding that if the vendor cannot make it out to a practice this week, they will have them on Saturday morning. PLEASE NOTE - Saturday is just a scrimmage with only our team, so it is not imperative that you swim in the team suit for that.
SCRATCHES/STROKE REQUESTS: Scratches for the Scrimmage must be in by Wednesday Morning at 10:00 a.m. So, if you have a swimmer who cannot attend, please log on the website and follow the scratch link. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER STROKE REQUESTS FOR THE SCRIMMAGE - Coaches will be handling all entries based on their evaluations this week.
VOLUNTEERS/TIMELINE: Sometime Thursday we should have a meet timeline and I will send out an e-mail detailing the timeline for volunteers. Please pay close attention and REMEMBER - EVEN IF YOU ARE SECOND HALF VOLUNTEER, YOU MUST CHECK IN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEET!
WEATHER UPDATE: There is some rain in the forecast this evening as well as some scattered T-Storms in the forecast on Wed. & Thurs. Please remember that we will be holding practices rain or shine. Thunder/Lightening will only derail us for 30 minutes if it happens. Plan to be there unless you hear otherwise from the coaches or me. SATURDAY it is expected to be cooler and rainy. We will stilk plan to hold our scrimmage (the pool is heated), but swimmers should be very careful to dress appropriately. We will only cancel if the weather is extremely bad.

June 2, 2022 8:24am
Good Morning All - Hopefully I won't have to send this type of e-mail too often this season. However, please pay close attention for weather updates.
GENERAL WEATHER POLICY: If you don't hear anything, plan to come to practice. I know that can be frustrating, but we so frequently have weather in the area where I can't make a call because it's so last minute. Worst case scenario, you show up and the practice gets canceled. I would ask that if you normally drop-off and leave, on strange weather days, please stick around to see what is happening.
TODAY'S WEATHER (PRACTICE) - JUNE 2, 2022: Our plan is to have practice for all groups today. There are chances of T-Storms as early as 1 PM, and once there is Thunder, we have to empty the pool for at least 1/2 hour. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOME OF THE PRACTICES, BUT NOT ALL WILL BE CANCELED. Please plan to be there for practice until you hear otherwise from me or Coach Emily.
OFFICIALS TRAINING TONIGHT RAIN OR SHINE: I ask again that anyone who can attend officials training and/or starter training, please come tonight! AT PRESENT WE ONLY HAVE 4 TRAINED OFFICIALS (INCLUDING ME)! SINCE WE NEED 4 OFFICIALS EACH MEET AT HOME, THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM! Please help us have a season. If we don't have officials, we don't swim!
Thanks for your attention.

Good Afternoon Yet Again. I do apologize for sending several e-mails today, but with practice beginning on Tuesday, it is very important that this information get out sooner rather than later.
- VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP GENIUS: Many Hands Make Light Work! Every family is responsible for 4 volunteer positions each season. The various options are available on a sign-up genius, the link for which will be sent out Tuesday evening after the parents' meeting. Because we had so many problems getting volunteers last season, we have been forced to reinstitute the policy from 2019 that if a family refuses to volunteer, we will ultimately begin scratching swimmers of that family from meets. Please do not force us to employ this process. I do not want to ever have a swimmer get scratched for any reason.
- RULES FOR AFTERSCHOOL PRACTICES: As I mentioned previously, the swim club is open to membership after school each day while we are holding practices. I remind you, it can be quite hectic because we only have 6 lanes during this time. The following rules will help keep things running smoothly and safely:
- Please be sure your swimmer arrives ready for practice (in a swim suit with goggles/cap/etc.);
- Remind your swimmers that unless the coaches are specifically working with the them on it, THERE IS NO DIVING during practice;
- If you are not a FGSC Member, you are certainly welcome to enjoy the facility during your swimmer's practice; however, once practice is over, we'd ask that you exit promptly. This is for the benefit of the membership as well as the other swimmers on the team who will be coming in for practice;
- Parents are reqeusted to drop swimmers off and then leave pool deck so that the coaches can do their job. There will be dozens of kids in the pool during practices, and it can be very distracting to the coaches and swimmers if parents are on deck "overseeing" their swimmers. Of course you can watch and take pictures, but please remember that we have only a few weeks to get the swimmers up to speed before the season and our coaches need the swimmers' complete attention to accomplish that goal.
- ISSUES WITH COACHES: If you have a problem with a coach or coaches, please find me to address those issues. Do not bother the coaches on deck, especially during practice or meets.
- TEAM SWIM SUITS: There has been a slight delay in receiving our team suits. The issue is not the fault of our vendor. I have been assured that we will have them prior to our first meet for sure. The plan is that 5M will be at our practice on Thursday to hand out those suits that have already been ordered, and that we will have the opportunity to put in orders for suits for swimmers who were unable to make it to the prior fittings.
- PARENTS MEETING: Please remember that our parents meeting is set for Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 6 PM in the big pavilion. All parents are welcome, but we specifically ask that parents of new swimmers attend the meeting.
That's all for now. I'll try to leave you all alone until Tuesday! Until then, Happy Memorial Day Weekend, and to all of you who have served, or have had family that have served, THANK YOU! It is through that service that we can enjoy all of our freedoms, and of course, Summer Swim Season!

Good Afternoon.
Paul McEndree, the HSL Head Official, has agreed to run an Officials Training at the back pavilion at Fountain Green Swim Club at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022. I am asking that everyone who is able to attend, please do so (and since most of you will be at the pool for evening practice, most of you should be able to attend ). Even if you are unlikely to volunteer as an official during the season, it is imperative that we have as many trained officials as possible just in case of an emergency. We are the largest team in the county with the largest pool. It is an embarrassment when we are unable to provide our required number of officials for meets. It's also a major issue, as we would be forced to forfeit in the event that we don't have officials at home or away meets.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Good Afternoon Everyone! If you are the parent of a senior swimmer (meaning that this is your swimmer's final year), I'd ask that you respond to this e-mail and identify your senior swimmer for me. We appear to have several seniors, and I don't want any of them to be missed.
Senior Program Ads:
Additionally, because we are back to regular swim meets this season, we will have programs again for meets. Good Afternoon All. Our Long-Awaited Season Is Here! It's a soggy start to the pool season, but our practice schedule looks clear. Please review the below information:
- Practices begin on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 (the schedule can be found at www.fgswimteam.com). For those who are new to FGST, please be aware that it can seem a little hectic and crowded. This is primarily because we only have 6 lanes to use for after-school practices because the club is open to membership. Once we are able to move to the mornings, it becomes much more open. Our coaches are quite skilled in running these practices, and there will be plenty of assistance on deck for the swimmers. If you have a younger swimmer, especially one who is new to this, please do your best to leave them with the coaches and then move off of pool deck and watch the show.
- There will be a parents meeting in the large pavilion at 6 PM on May 31st. This is primarily for new parents; however, all are welcome. We will cover some important information, as well as answer any questions you may have regarding the season.
- If you are not a member of Fountain Green Swim Club, please be sure that you exit the pool promptly following your swimmer's practice. You are welcome to eat dinner at the pool during practice, and you certainly don't have to rush out the gate as soon as practice is over; however, because the pool is open to membership, and swimmers will be coming and going for different practice times, we do need to move fluidly.
- We will have 5M present delivering team swim suits that have been ordered.
- APPAREL Sales will be ongoing during practices to start the season!
We are extremely excited to get things going! See you all on pool deck Tuesday!
Jim Quinn
Swim Team Director

Good Morning Everyone!
As we race toward the season, I would like to remind everyone that our league and our team operate due to volunteer support from families. Each family is responsible to fill 4 volunteer slots through the season, and officiating counts as 2 because you do it for the whole meet. More importantly, WE MUST PROVIDE OFFICIALS FOR MEETS OR WE CAN BE DISQUALIFIED! It is imperative that we get as many people as possible to do these trainings to become officials and step in to help so that we can be sure we have what we need in every meet.
Officiating is not as difficult as people seem to think. It's a great opportunity to watch your swimmer from a perfect vantage point with no one in your way, and when the meet is finished, you're finished! AND - It's now become even easier to be an official, as the trainings are all available virtually. Below is the link to the online trainings. Please register to do them so that we can continue to show leadership with the HSL.
