Merchants win Memorial Day Tournament!

May 28, 2022

It was a tale of two games for the Merchants as they blew a 6 run lead against the Greyhounds and came back from a 5 run deficit against the Elks to claim the 2022 Memorial Day Tournament title in Jamestown.  Brooks Brown collected both wins on the mound relieving John Eckstein and Matt Nelson in each game.  Newcomer Kobe Senn had six hits on the day and Drew Clouse provided the punch smacking a grand slam.  Carlos Turpo played a questionable shortstop but ran the bases like a mad man more than making up for it.

When Brown was asked how he could play outfield and pitch in both games he said, "Just give me the ball.  My sweet arms tatts will get me through this."  And they did.

JB got on track with a couple hits and two RBI's. As did Bryan Erstad with a big 3 run double to start the comeback on the Elks along with another RBI double that scorched the top of the ivy filled chain link in right field.

While no trophy was given, the Merchants celebrated like usual with Beast and Taco John's.

Next up for the Merchants is the Mets on Wednesday at Helling Field as they look to keep their undefeated record in tact.
