While girls and boys will be separated, the following rules will apply to these grade levels. Unless otherwise noted, all regular basketball rules will be in effect. The Harrison Department of Recreation and the Harrison Youth Basketball Committee reserve the right to change, modify, add to or delete from this list, at any time during the season, any item which is deemed appropriate.
1. Game Length: 4 @ 6 minute stop time quarters
2. Time Outs: 2 @ 60 second Time Outs per half per team
3. Full Court Press: Full Court press will be allowed in the last 1 Minute of 4th quarter ONLY!
The offensive team will have 10 seconds to bring the ball into the front court. If a team is 10 or more points ahead, they are NOT to press, regardless of time.
4. Back Court: The Back Court rule will be in effect. Players may pass into the back court on an in-bounds play. The 10 Second rule will then apply towards getting the ball into the front court.
5. Defenses: Zone defenses and Double Teaming WILL be permitted. Man to Man Defense as well as Zone Defense will be allowed. Coaches must remember the philosophy of the league and not overly press the weaker players on the floor.
6. Personal Fouls: A player may play with five fouls, and is ejected on the six. If a player who fouls out is the last player available, that team will play with four (4) players. If another player fouls out, the team will forfeit the game.
7. 3 Seconds: 3 Seconds in the key will be called. Please remind your players to keep moving through the lane.
8. Team Fouls: Team Fouls will be monitored and on the 8th team foul the player fouled will be awarded a 2 shot bonus. Players fouled in the act of shooting will go to the Free Throw Line for 2 shots regardless of the number of Team Fouls.
9. In Bounding: Players will be given 5 seconds to in bound the ball.
10. Technical Fouls: Will be assessed for the use of foul or abusive language, fighting, intentional attempt to injure, etc.. Players or Coaches will be ejected on the second technical.
11. Substitutions: Each player must play an equal amount of time compared to their teammates. No player should play 4 quarters at the expense of another player playing 2 quarters. Substitutions will be permitted during quarter breaks ONLY. Each Coach will be required to submit a Substitution Sheet to the opposing coach prior to each game. The substitution Sheets must be turned in to the scorer at the conclusion of the game. Please see the Substitution Guidelines for more information on substitutions.
12. Foul Line Foul shots will be taken from a line 15 feet from the basket. The player shooting the foul shot must stay behind the foul line
13. Possession Arrow: A possession arrow will determine all jump balls as well as possession at the start of each quarter. The team that loses the jump ball at the start of the game will be awarded the arrow.
14. Tie Games: Will end in a tie. No Overtime.
15. Miscellaneous: Teams WILL change sides at the half. This division will use a 28.5 cm ball.
